Pete Rose

Hall of fame?

With all the turmoil surrounding baseball (steroids, corked bats, salary caps, strikes) you would think that Rose could find his way into Cooperstown.

SlutFinder 09-27-2004 09:32 AM

ANSWER: No

REASON: Because i dont evenknow who the fuck he is

GiantGnome 09-27-2004 09:33 AM

Hell yes he should be let in. He should also have been allowed to play baseball years and years ago. Like when they kept letting Strawberry and Doc Gooden back in everytime they failed drug test or got arrested .

TurboAngel 09-27-2004 09:34 AM

Did you see the movie on ESPN about his life? He wasn't a nice guy.

JFK 09-27-2004 09:36 AM

He paid the price, now let him the fuck back in :2 cents:

I doubt being "nice" is required for the Baseball Hall of Fame :)

Well it was more that he wasn't nice he let everyone take the fall for him, you should watch the movie and then tell me what you think.

swoop 09-27-2004 09:43 AM

Yea let him in, I thought the H.O.F. was for your performance on the field?

Vitasoy 09-27-2004 10:04 AM

Based on stats alone hell ya.

Torn Rose 09-27-2004 10:11 AM

If being a nice guy was mandatory how many would even know who Ty Cobb was?

Rose will be in, they make a big deal over this betting BS, but look at all the other's who are in HOF's that are murders, rapist and drug dealers.

One day MLB will have a commissioner who will care more about what is good for baseball then what is good for his ego. Fans want Rose in, and since it?s the fans who pay, it should be the fans who deicide.
:2 cents:

pornstar2pac 09-27-2004 10:12 AM

Pete Rose made baseball into what it is today. There was never anyone who played as hard as rose did. why do you think they call a heads first slide, the "Pete rose" slide:2 cents:

I don't base what I think about real people on how Hollywood portrays them.

Joesho 09-27-2004 10:17 AM

I agree, Pete should be in...

and the comissioner should be impeached LOL

Did he throw games?

No drug users are in the Hall of Fame?

Wasn't Babe Ruth a drunk?

xclusive 09-27-2004 10:23 AM

He was a little messed up in the head but only reason he isn't in is because he dared to go up against the commisioner and baseball insiders don't like that. He will get n eventually just hope it's while he's alive...

LauraLee 09-27-2004 10:26 AM

I don't think Pete Rose should be in the hall of fame. When he was breaking all the rules and gambling on baseball, did he know what he was risking? YES.
Did he risk it anyways... YES.
I come from the old fashioned mind set that you "play you pay".
If you are an adult, then it's time to take responsibility for your actions.

PurrrsianPussyKat 09-27-2004 10:28 AM

Pete will get in eventually.

Get your autographs now kiddies... while they are cheap. ;)

Yes, he did. For some reason it's ok to be a drunk is all I can say.

CDSmith 09-27-2004 10:29 AM

I thought the baseball hall of fame was about one's baseball prowess and career, not "how nice" they were.

Rose should be in, he was a highly noteable figure in the sport and a great player,

... regardless of what an asshole he was.

Babe ruth was a fucking asshole too, so what?

He surely did pay the price.

Let him in.

Cory W 09-27-2004 11:33 AM

If I were him, I don't really know if I would want in anymore.

At the end of the day, he will still be discussed as one of the greats, HOF or not.

I didnt see the movie but I would like to point out that there are no laws or guidelines that determine what can or cannot be a "true" story, which is why a completely fictional story like Fargo is a "true" story. Movie magic can make any one either nice or not depending on how the director wants to portray the character. Most likely Pete Rose is an asshole but I wouldnt base that opinion from a movie:2 cents:

mackey 09-27-2004 11:44 AM

I was exactly gonna say that!

Why would I trust a movie loosely based upon the "true" story of a great baseball player...

Regardless of what he did OFF the field, his numbers for baseball were great...

Its not like he murdered anyone....

Let the man into the fame....

Totally he put in the time and deserves it

Goatse 09-27-2004 01:24 PM

Betting on baseball compromises the integrity of the game. It evokes the possibility that what you are watching is fixed, merely theater. Just look how gambling has ruined boxing.

Pete Rose's actions are inexcusable and he does not deserve to be in the Hall of Fame, and neither does Shoeless Joe Jackson. And by the way, Rose is the most overrated player in the history of the game. He was a .290 hitter with no power.

TheWolf 09-27-2004 03:24 PM

If McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds make it into the H.O.F., surely he should too. :2 cents:

Is OJ Simpson not in the football hall of fame?

TurboAngel 09-27-2004 04:39 PM

The movie is on ESPN2 right now if anyone would like to see it.

:winkwink:

smack 09-27-2004 04:44 PM

Yeah. if they let people like Mcguire still keep their titles even after steroids are found, why not let Pete Rose into the hall of fame?

eroswebmaster 09-27-2004 04:53 PM

He's in the record books for his achievements...the Hall of Fame is something entirely different.

You don't automatically get in...you have to be voted in..so yeah being a nice guy has something to do with it.

And since he's no longer "eligible" for baseball he doesn't meet part of the rules for being voted in.

Quote:

Any player on Baseball's ineligible list shall not be an eligible candidate.

eroswebmaster 09-27-2004 04:57 PM

And for those who want to compare him to drunks rapists etc...

I don't think people who commit crimes should be allowed in a place that is to honor some of the greatest whoever played...being a drunk or getting popped for cheating is completely different.

Sure we can go back and find a lot of bad about people...but you have to consider this...

What Pete Rose did was not just something that could affect him cheating using a corked bat..but others as well.

He not only bet on baseball but he bet on his team while he managed. Who knows if he threw games in order to win the bet. All it takes is making a few lineup changes, a pitcher change or even telling the infield to play deeper when everyone knows they should play close.

And for those who don't know..he has admitted to betting on baseball.

CDSmith 09-27-2004 04:57 PM

Whaateverrrr.

The guy was a great player. It is widely considered that he was a great player.

Commemorating great players is what the hall of fame is for.

Some decision-makers might say being a "nice guy" has something to do with it, but I think those decision-makers are idiots.

Was Rose a noteworthy ball player? If your answer is yes, there really isn't anything more we have to talk about.

korzon 09-27-2004 04:58 PM

im going to refrain from voting becuase i still cant make my mind up about it

Exactly.

Should Sosa be in the Hall? How many corked bat homers does he have?
