They're great.. you may even want to try upgrading to their premium servers at theplanet.com.

No problems at all with a couple of bargin machines in a
round robin.

prices seem almost too cheap for managed hosting. is it cogent? shit support? downtime?

Bare bones. You'd better know your way around the shell.
Guys that can barely handle a HTML editor should steer clear.

Bandwidth in the Texas facility is;

AboveNet #1 - (1Gbps/1000Mbps)
AboveNet #2 - (1Gbps/1000Mbps)
Broadwing - (1Gbps/1000Mbps)
nLayer - (1Gbps/1000Mbps)
AT&T - (1Gbps/1000Mbps)
Global Crossing - (1Gbps/1000Mbps)
Level3 #1 - (1Gbps/1000Mbps)
Level3 #2 - (1Gbps/1000Mbps)
Sprint #1 - (1Gbps/1000Mbps)
Sprint #2 - (1Gbps/1000Mbps)
Time Warner - (1Gbps/1000Mbps)
UUNET - (1Gbps/1000Mbps)
Verio - (1Gbps/1000Mbps)
Cogent - (1Gbps/1000Mbps)

...looking at the net flow today, Cogent isn't even active.

They have 2 hosting facilities in Dallas. They are about 30 minutes from my house. I got one last week very happy with it thus far. The ones at servermatrix (20Mbp/s) are unmanaged. I do not know that much about server admining but they have a great forum. It took me about 4 hours to set it all up and secure it. Well worth the money thus far ;-)

but they make sure everything is up and running so you dont have to?

so in other words if i wanna add a domain or some shit i'd have to do it myself?

Yeah... you'd have to do the dns, zones, set the ip etc. BTW servermatrix' support won't even look at your site because its adult.

When I got mine setup, I told em I didn't want them F'ing around
and installing security holes. They handed over the root password
right after the FreeBSD install. Pure clean OS.

I imagine if you don't specifically tell them to keep their paws off,
you're likely to atleast get apache installed.
