The Truth Hurts 09-26-2004 01:15 PM

I am.

ItBurnsWhenIpee 09-26-2004 01:17 PM

I think it's gonna be the most watched debate in a long ass time

CodeKing 09-26-2004 01:19 PM

nope

bush: "terrorism!"
kerry: "veitnam!"

Libertine 09-26-2004 01:20 PM

Gonna watch that one with a few cases of beer and a big bag of popcorn :thumbsup

PerfectionGirls 09-26-2004 01:21 PM

Yeah.... it will be like Jay and Silent Bob in a debate.

They both suck ass, but we wont have jobs in a year of Bush gets re-elected.

My vote is for Kerry... why? because he is NOT Bush.

ItBurnsWhenIpee 09-26-2004 01:22 PM

I wonder what Vegas puts the odds at of them hugging during the debate at least once.

CodeKing 09-26-2004 01:25 PM

"republican"

"democrat"

it's all the same, the government is corrupt and bush and kerry are puppets for the people who really run the show, nothing is going to change with kerry in office

Sarah_Jayne 09-26-2004 01:33 PM

I'm a politcal junkie so it could be two hand puppets and I would watch.

Close enough

As part of the 32-pages of rules required to get Bush to agree to debate Kerry (he is not legally required to) one requirement is that Kerry is not allowed to ask Bush any questions. Seriously. And all questions from the moderator or the audience are pre-screened. pre-approved, and pre-answered. The whole script is already written. It's not a debate at all.

EviLSuperstaR 09-26-2004 01:34 PM

Poor Bush, he will be programmed to repeat the same sentence over and over again. Play the good news show about Iraq (we are making progress :) ) and attack Kerry personally

THIS MEANS THAT BUSH IS AN INCOMPETENT COWARDISH WHIMP (but hey, we already knew that)

Isn't that standard that they aren't supposed to ask each other questions?

johnbosh 09-26-2004 01:42 PM

no

Wait and watch and see I guess. I don't think any of us are going to get to see what we want. From my understanding, Kerry is not even allowed to talk directly to Bush in any way. It was the Bush campaign that spent the last month fighting for this big book of rules after Kerry had already agreed to everything.

Tom_PMs 09-26-2004 01:43 PM

Yep, should be good.

Dont forget, The Apprentice will be on Wednesday instead of Thursday because the debate is in the same time slot.

alexg 09-26-2004 01:44 PM

will it be live on cnn?

if so, I'll watch if I'm home

I know..it's like.."here are the questions and answers on this sheet of paper" that they can pass out BEFORE the debate!
Don't have to worry about missing anything.

I can't believe how TIGHTLY the "rules" are. You can't even walk from around the back of the podium to the side or anything!

Goes to show you that the incumbent ALWAYS has the upper hand.

When you think about how most of what people will decide on in the debates is going to be the candidates demeanor and not what they're actually saying about the issues, stupid shit matters...don't forget that.

clickhappy 09-26-2004 01:51 PM

I hope Kerry doesn't fuck up and get in Bush's face like Gore did 4 years ago.

I think the challenger will always do that, as will the incumbent doing what Bush did. Bush has no incentive for agreeing to a debate, he is doing Kerry a favor

That's a sack..it's BOTH demeanor and WHAT THEY SAY (or even what they DON'T say). Dukakis was destroyed in 1988 by what he said about the "rape question".

The democrats and the republicans sat down and made the debate rules in 2000. Neither candidate can ask the other questions. All questions are actually written by the candidates and then read by the audience (aka the props). The rules also state that no 3rd party candidates will ever be allowed in a debate. Don't expect Bush or Kerry to say anything stupid because they will basically just be reading off a teleprompter. I personally think Bush would self destruct if asked impromptu questions. I don't think the debates will be any indication of who is the better candidate. Its just campaign rhetoric. Bush will say "Kerry waffles" and Kerry will say "Bush is bad for the economy" blah blah blah. Don't expect any revelations in this debate.
