I could have been fucking rich damnit!

Remember when GFY allowed HTML?

Remember how you could frame whatever into your sig?

Why the fuck didn't I frame pages of sponsor programs with my affiliate codes in em and give everyone on GFY a cookie.

Another idea that is a year late.

Damn you brain!

For a fact would have as long as the sponsor tracked webmaster referrals with cookies.

So few sites pay on those referrals that the income would not have been huge at first. But it would have added up I am sure.

I've always done great from my downline. I have one guy that clicked a sig I only ran for a week sign up 8 months later from the cookie. He's made me $300 a week or more for almost a year now.

cluck 09-26-2004 12:15 PM

What I'd like to know is are the referral links like first come first serve or what? If you set the cookie, then they click a banner, who gets credit?

Good question, and furthermore I doubt cookies last 8 months.
I think 1 month is the maximum in this industry.

affiliate associated with the banner would get the credit (at least that's how it is with most programs)

SmokeyTheBear 09-26-2004 01:05 PM

Well heres an idea that will still work..

Do the same thing ( iframes ) on a page you own.

Then find funny videos and such ( or a good article ) and post the link on gfy..

Don't care what the standard is. My sponsor uses 1 year cookies.

Definitly could have made a shitload of $ :P

Intrigue 09-26-2004 05:00 PM

Only problem i see with it is that browsers only send cookies back to domains they originate from, so if you set a cookie from xyz.com the browser won't send it to zyx.com

What he said. Third party cookies have been blocked by default by IE for a long time.

mule 09-26-2004 10:42 PM

Whoa
I did that.
Then smokey came along and spoiled it all.
Now I have just over 20K affiliates in my downline.
And not one of them has made a single sale.
