freelaptop4you.com - how much money are these people making?
They are advertising on some big sites....

That looks like you gotta sign up for alot of junk mail, and for a crappy generic dell at that. Its probably refurbished.. haha |
It's a good concept since they hit you with many pages of preliminary lead signups before you even get to the 'points' section. Even the points section already make them money from lead generation alone.
I would think that such a system generates a lot of $ if executed well. |

These setups have been around for years. I remember some friends of mine doing great with them, from the affiliate side, about 5 years back.

Millions just like freeipods .. Are they the same people? |
Lead generation is all it is. Unfortunately, if you have to 'incentivize' leecherz like that I doubt if the advertisers would get anywhere close to optimal ROI.

i'm just wondering if they are making so much money why there arent 1000 copycats already

Who can set me up with a website like that with a profitable business model?
|
My hunch is that it's not profitable enough to cover the prizes, but that their growth rate is fast enough that they're able to pay out to the earlier affiliates because they get exponentially more new ones each week. Like a Ponzi scheme...they'll make a lot of money, then they'll make excuses when the pyramid crashes. Wired ran a favorable article a while back, but never delved into the numberical details. Their latest follow-up said a lot of people are wondering where their iPods are, with freeipods.com saying it's because Apple can't make them fast enough. Amazon, on the other hand, projects 1-2 day turnaround on iPods, so that seems an iffy excuse. Maybe the scheme is starting to crumble already?
