Keep at it, you need to really examine other sites and how they're designed. Try even mocking them just for the sake of learning. The first one is the best one though.

1st one aiin't bad .

But you should definitly stop using actions and start designing yourself

Disable your bevel command please, and do some research on contrasting colors and study well designed sites to get some ideas of how they work.
