Calif. OKs World's Toughest Smog Rules

LOS ANGELES - California air regulators Friday unanimously approved the world's most stringent rules to reduce auto emissions that contribute to global warming ? a move that could affect car and truck buyers from coast to coast.

Phoenix rocks. It gets hot here in the summer, but I have no traffic on my commute what so ever.

I went to Scottsdale during the summer once and felt like I was in an oven it was so damn hot.

How do you guys take 3 months of that?

Down here it gets humid but never that baked hot feeling like the west gets.

Most major American cities are fog-filled nightmares with so much traffic that you'd be better off using a fucking bicycle.

Nah if you ride you inhale more and well we will not want that.
Safer if you just drive with windows up smoking :winkwink:

Aaaah yes the 405 at Santa Monica. What a beautifil sight.

My dad summed it up best.

The higher up the hills you live the better it is. You look down on all the people below you and how much smog they are stuck breathing. You notice how nice and clear it is where you are and how bad it is for everyone else.

Then you go up the hill a little and you can't see your own house through the smog.

Exactly why I live up in Valencia (Northern L.A. suburb up in the Canyons)

same here, i drive 35 miles each way to the location shoots every other day and i can do it in under 40 mins :)

Yeah, only 100+ for five months a year.

And that's after the sun goes down.

I think the 'top smog' award gets passed back and forth between LA and Houston every year...


I grew up in The Valley and still have family there...I can't stand the air or crowds now...was fun to grow up there in the 70s and 80s though...

los angeles has always had smog, way before cars. its just the way that the landscape naturally is. same thing with paris.

I remember the first time I flew into LA, it was before they started to get a grip on air pollution and the pilot announced that underneath the brown cloud we were approaching was LA. Looked like God had taken a dump on the city.

It was only when I landed that I realised I had seen it from it's best side. 1,000 feet high.

Not all of the LA area is bad. I recommend the beach if you hate smog. My semi-daily bike ride:

Between Manhattan Beach and El Segundo. I start in Manhattan and go north. We're south of Venice Beach, but north of Long Beach (a lot of people on SoCal seem to have no clue where Manhattan Beach is)

LA County is huge... only the main part like downtown are that fucked up. The suburbs are usually alot better.

People who live in the "fly-over" states like to rip on Los Angeles any chance they get. for every negative I can think of 5 positiives of living in Los Angeles!!!!

I lived in Redondo Beach for a year. It was great!
I also lived in the "Valley" and some days fucking choked when going outside. I live in Vegas now and with 5,000 people moving her EVERY month the smog is getting bad. We are in a huge valley. Also the traffic is getting ridiculous. It totally reminds me of Los Angeles now.

Hell yeah, Redondo's not too far from me. I also lived in the Valley...when I first moved to LA. Ugh! North Hollywood. It was ghetto and SO hot in the summer

I think Helsinki is the most polluted capital in Europe in the middle of the winter. It's so cold (or something) that the pollution won't rise, and it keeps in the same spot.. the next day the amount of pollution increases etc etc.. :(

I've lived in LA all my life and yes smog sucks...it's so bad you don't even see the stars :) Only when you go to the desert or bech you see stars lol...I hate the smog..

There are much nicer places in this world to live than Los Angeles.

The OC is the best place in the world and LA's smog makes great sunsets for us :thumbsup

I've been to El Segundo, it's funny cause it's like a tiny little town with narrow streets in the middle of LA.

Don't even notice it anymore, plus if you're not outside it's air conditioned. I'll take the oven feeling over sticky humidity anytime.

the problem is the valley - the smog gets trapped between the ocean and the mountains - it definately looks liek that almost everyday here - sux - I'm sure it is taking days off my life - but not the weekends - haha
