When would you consider yourself a failure?

In 5 years if you are making the same amount of money as u are now.. would u consider yourself a failure?

yes and no

yes in the sense that I Will put myself down, believe I didn't succeed to my potential

no in the sense that "failure" would be the improper term to use, because RELATIVELY to others, I would still be a very-much-so winner

sacX 09-24-2004 04:42 PM

Not neccessarily. Circumstances change. 5 years ago i never expected to make this much money this easily, so who knows what might be different in 5 more years.

Hopefully in 5 years, I'll be making the same money passively though.

so its about comparing yourself to others and then based on where they are u would consider urself a failure?

So if ur mates were all people on a low wage and u earned more u would consider urself a success?

sacX 09-24-2004 04:46 PM

I guess (after further thought :)) measuring success purely on how much you earn is pretty superficial too.

yes, words such as "failure", "success", "happy" "great", as much as they have to do with yourself, are basically relative terms...

relativity has much to do in our every day life

thats why I said, to myself, I would be unhappy that I haven't "made more" than 5 years ago, having 5 years to work on my projects and such, but if you would take the 5th year and compare it by itself to everybody around you, you might still be a "relative success"

cool1 09-24-2004 04:46 PM

No, but if I am a drunkin wino/drug addict bum in 5 years then I will be a failure.
Anything better than that is success

absolutely, we compare ourselves to others on a daily basis, it is almost impossible not to

we find much comfort in knowing that we are better off than the GREAT MAJORATY of people, because it's all it is in this world, how good you are compared to others... how else would a human know when enough is enough? :Graucho

Topic: When would you consider yourself a failure?

that is a state of mind, has nothing to do with reality.

if you want more or better you have to do something about it such as education or change the way you work or whatever adjustment must be made to improve.

of course its a state of the mind, it was a personal wuestion... Cheney when would you consider yourself a failure?

CheneyRumsfeld 09-24-2004 04:52 PM

if you don't have the guts enough to try to do something.
win or lose.

Considering how hard the winds of change are blowing I would be happy to be making the same amount in five years.

I begin considering myself a failure when I have to wonder if I have to start asking myself. As long as you are pushing constantly you are persistant, when you are quitting or slacking you are beginning to fail.

It's not myself I doubt, it's circumstances beyond my control that are the concern.

Where there is a will there is generally a way, but both you and I would find things a lot harder if online is regulated more thoroughly.

Every year I've been at this has been better than the last, but you have to recognize that this is easy money, and the things that make it so may not last.

Zerof8 09-24-2004 05:10 PM

Unless you are a drug addict who doesnt work failure is a state of mind. No amount of money or possesions can make you either a failure or a success. If you are happy with your life then you succeeded. We all have to realize that we arent all going to be rich like Bill Gates.

TheSenator 09-24-2004 05:12 PM

Consistently making over 100,000 a year in the long run is better than making a large lump of cash in the short run.

Mutt 09-24-2004 05:13 PM

it's good to be self critical enough to take stock of yourself and admit that you have fallen short - in business, personal life, anything.

but to label yourself a failure as a human being based on that stuff is pathetic. there are many ways to judge whether you are a success beyond $$$. there are missionaries, volunteers, people who work in occupations helping people who make nothing or modest salaries who are far happier than 95% of multi millionaires.

Shoplifter 09-24-2004 05:17 PM

BTW Darren your program looks interesting. We have three new TGP's that are doing a combined 230k uniques a day. I posted looking for sponsors the other day:

ARE is 'now'..

I know it's a simple blunder.. but it reminded me of my boss saying one day while it was raining..

"If it starts raining like it is now we'll dog off" ..

Sorry.. Just had a moment.. :)

Yes, everyone compares himself usually to his environment.

If I were making one billion dollars a day and have been for the last 10 years, I would not consider myself a failure.

Ironhorse 09-25-2004 01:57 AM

I'll never consider myself a failure. As long as I can move about and am somewhat in control of my mind, I will be able to snap out of anything, no matter how dark and desperate..

good point, but is it all about money?

I would consider myself a failure when I was not happy.

Mishi 09-25-2004 02:17 AM

I would consider myself a failure if I chose to give up. Since that's not an option, I would never consider myself a failure.

Of course, what qualifies as "giving up" varies hugely from person to person...

I have had a really good life. Lot's of incredible memories.

And it is looking extremely bright right now.

Ex has bought a place and is gone in six weeks, I am working on something kinky with a 19 yo, and I make porn.

Also have a great regular job.

Even I get hit and killed by a bus tomorrow, I would still give a :thumbsup to what I have had.

Exactly. You can fail many people, including yourself, while having a well packed bank account:thumbsup

Goatse 09-25-2004 08:28 AM

Yeah, I would. If I don't have 500k clear to my name in 5 years, I will officially consider myself a worthless piece of shit.

LOL hell no I wouldn't. I earn more money than I would doing 3 good jobs.

If however I was still doing the same thing, I didn't try and do other things I'd maybe be a bit pissed off.

I'd only consider myself a failure when I have no friends, no family who like me and no girlfriend who stands by my side no matter what.

Everything else is imaterial - good nevertheless.

Goatse 09-25-2004 08:39 AM

Trying the same things over and over again and expecting different results. Having big plans that are unrealistic and not possessing the know-how to bring them to fruition.
