PC just restarted inself
Yo, My main WIN PC just restarted itself. First time this happens, anyone seem this before..whats causing this?
thx, Ray |
Overheating, check your fan, might be too much dust on it.
|
if its XP it may be the equivalent of a blue screen, where XP just restarts.

thx for your help guys! |
Do a virus scan. I had a virus on XP that made it constantly want to reboot by itself.

You dont need a proggy to check the temp. It was already explained in this thread, but I guess you over looked it.
Hold *I beleive* F8 when your computer is restarting. It should bring up your BIOS. Then inside the BIOS go to PC health or monitor hardware or something. |

restart your PC > you'll see a message among some others saying push DEL to enter BIOS or s/t like that. That message occurs before you're Harddrive get's recognized. You'll find yourself on a blue screen, that's the bios. Now just look for CPU temperature or anything close to that (hardware monitor,...) you'll find the current temp there. you can just leave the bios pressing ESC > Exit without saving. When you found it you can post that temperature here and tell me what a CPU you have...Then I can tell you whether it's too hot or not :) Good luck |

Here is the info: Current CPU Temp 23c Current fan speed 2678rpm Current system fan speed 0rpm CPU waning temp. 70c Its a P4 HT 2.8 thx allot for your help Goose! |
Could be a power supply on its way out
|
It's cause your pc crashed. In windows default it's set to restart automatically when your pc crashes, instead of the blue screen...
Goto administation, services to check logs... |
run windoze update ( install all critical updates)
update and run your antivirus software.. (if u leave your comp on at night.. schedule it to clean your system every night) download spybot search & destroy, update and clean spyware from your system. don't use IE to browse the net or outlook express to check your email. cpu temp looks fine. edit: certain applications (virtual CD type stuff is common) can cause unexpected crashes in XP... as well as faulty RAM/ other hardware. |

ok I try to explain that stat for you: - Current CPU Temp 23c -- well what this means is quite obvious -Current fan speed 2678rpm -- the Speed of your FAN on the CPU -Current system fan speed 0rpm -- this is only used when you have a fan in your case -CPU waning temp. 70c -- when reaching this temperature your system will reboot to prevent it from getting damaged due to CPU overheating. So what might have happened is the following: when you had a reboot the system might have reached that critical temp, but that can only happen when you're system is very busy (playing computer games, rendering images,...) The 23° Celcius is a very low figure. Generally a CPU has s/t between 35°-60°. You probably just switched on the PC... So next time you experience a reboot, imediatelly go to bios (coz now you know how to get there :)) and check the temp. If it's s/t around 60° or below, the system rebooted due to another reason. But if it happened just once I wouldn't worry about it. That may happen once in a while. Hope I could help you a little :) Cheers :) |
Thx for your help everyone, its much appreciated.
Ray |
now you just have to teach your PC how to spell
(referring to title of this thread) BIG B |

yes P...as in Prick :) |
Hang on a sec. If it's only a month old, then it may well not be anything to do with the PC itself, but a nasty virus called Netsky. Anyone remember that?
Head over to symantec.com and type "Netsky" into the search. Download the fix. It will scan your computer to see if you have Netsky, and if you do, it will fix it for you. |
im sure its pwr suplly going...Mark probably installed one of those crappy pwr supplies
