Funbrunette 09-22-2004 09:40 AM

Didn't help much last year...Haven't decided yet. :2 cents:

Never do I get a flu shot, and I'm rather glad of it. Rarely do I get the flu, but I'm always getting sick in the late fall.early winter. *sigh*

The FLU vaccine is always usefull to take. Its cheap, and 70-90% effective. I do not have the effectivity numbers for this years vaccine yet.

The flu can be a bitch if you get it strong, and you feel like shit for 2 weeks. Better to take the shot and minimize your risks.

If anyone cares.. (which I doubt, this is GFY afterall) flu vaccines are a virus combination of the 2 (I think) most vollatile strands of the past year/early this year and the new strands from asia from this year. Normally 3-4 different flu strands are in it. At this this the case for europe, not sure how the US ones are setup, but they are mainly from the same company in both europe and the states, so I think they are rather much similar.

This is why the effectiveness always changes, since you can never be 100% sure how many new flu strands spring up during the year.

no thanks, I prefer getting sick the the old fashioned way.

besides, I've never got the flu.

It's my understanding they no longer use attenuated viruses, which are live strains, in a weakened state.....thus making the flu shot safer.

I was not a believer until a few years ago.

Now, I get one every year and I have not had the flu....it doesn't stop colds..but if you're prone to the flu or pneumonia, it's a good idea.
