Hurricane Jeanne, killed 700 in Haiti now moving towards Florida (PIX)

Massive flooding from Tropical Storm Jeanne has claimed the lives of more than 700 people in Haiti, and forecasters say the now hurricane-strength storm could threaten the storm-battered U.S. Southeast, including Florida, as early as this weekend. In Gonaives, Haiti, bodies lay outside morgues as U.N. peacekeepers planned the first major distribution of food and water today.

might directly hit Carolina this time.. and just a small portion of Florida it seems

scoreman 09-22-2004 08:19 AM

at the UM...about 4 miles from my house :)

Jeanne looks like its going to miss Florida. Lots of relief about that here and it looks like its gonna be a surf bonanza for the east coast of Florida as this storm slowly chugs its way north. South beach to Mayport Poles ought to be firing really good over the weekend. There are a few Florida surfers on this board that I think will love this storm.

Tala 09-22-2004 08:28 AM

Karl is not expected to make landfall. It will die in the ocean, probably near Greenland.

Jeanne is set to hit the carolinas around Tuesday/Wednesday of next week as a hurricane.

There's a tropical wave in the Gulf that we're watching very closely. Although it doesn't look like it's going to evolve, there's a slight risk that it will.

There's also another tropical wave that's following Karl, which I think may have been upgraded to a tropical depression. I'll check.

I don't think that it's so many hurricanes this year but rather so many of them heading our way.

Looks like it's coming right for my house. :(

add to that global warming, el nino, nina. everything has a cause and effect.

cause: not listening to environmentalists 50-55 years ago.

effect: weather we have had to date including but not limited to tornados, snow storms, hurricanes, etc.....
