anyone ever restore a dell latitude laptop?

one fell off a truck and now i have it, it was completely formatted. i installed win2k and it boots but it doesnt run right, its obvious i need the correct drivers.

i put my service tag and OS into the dell site, they still list like 15 drivers for each item on the pc! i dont want to run them all and hope one works, heh

anyhow, what did you do to solve your driver issues?

thanks if you can help

how is each driver differentiated?

and what exactly isnt running right? you can always find drivers for whatever, where ever.

whats the conflict and what piece of hardware?

got any more that fell off the truck?

I assume no invoice or inventory list came with it? These will tell you which components are installed, hence what drivers are needed.

First and foremost however, are the chipset drivers. You'll need to install these first before doing anything, once you get those installed, you'll have to play w/ drivers to get one that works, or do some snooping and see what the most common configs were in that model to get a good starting point.

Be resourceful and do some searching online or social engineering on some forums to get a serial # from a user who has a Dell laptop. Then call up their tech support with the number and find out what drivers you need or maybe even have them send you a new install CD. Or a windows install prep CD, not sure if those exist for laptops, but they do for servers.

Just my :2 cents:

you can probably pick up the restore disk for that model someplace online
