Tipsy 09-21-2004 05:34 PM

Easiest way to tell is to have a nibble of them all and see. If they kill you then you know not to eat them again! :)

robfantasy 09-21-2004 05:40 PM

funny how you can get a pretty good read on a person when you mention the word 'mushroom'.

you either think garnigh/food or illicet drug.

Amanita Muscaria

Contains cyanide in the white dots and red skin. It is a hallucinogen but not
something to play with. That's one of the mushrooms Lewis Carroll used in
Alice in Wonderland.

A ring on the stem and purple tinge to gills (the underside of the mushroom cap) is safe.

I'm not that into mushrooms, but took a bunch of pics of them a couple weeks ago while camping in Ontario. Yes, I had way too much time on my hands, that's what I like about it there, because normally I never have enough time on my hands. :-) Shroom gallery at http://www.argy.com/mushrooms, with some excerpts:

Washington rocks. 147k is a big large for those tiny ass pics though.

Arg ... was that GFY on your desktop. way too hardcore =)

NinjaSteve 09-21-2004 08:37 PM

That's an awesome pic with your laptop. You'll have to use that for a "post your office' thread.

shows how little you know about mushrooms, at least 2 of the types of mushrooms in the above photos can be eaten for they psychotropic or europhic properties.

one time i tried to give her advice on how to dry her mushrooms better. she got pissed and told me i dont know shit :)

was kind of waiting for her here just to see how many and which of the shrooms above can be eaten for thier non-gourmet qualities :) in her 'professional' opinion. ha fucking ha, ha.

arg 09-21-2004 08:45 PM

Heh, I surfed GFY briefly there, but I think that was pool.com on the screen, tending domain auctions. The connection worked, but was really slow, not good for casual surfing.

sickkittens 09-21-2004 08:52 PM

Badger, Badger, Badger, Badger, Badger, Badger, Badger, Badger, Mushrooms, Mushrooms!

killer pics man. you can see more of mine here what camera did you shoot with?

mine was just a Sony F717, with the marco on.

czarina 09-21-2004 08:56 PM

ohh! so pretty! I love those pictures!

marzzo 09-21-2004 09:21 PM

those are some awesome pictures, I love mushrooms. I ate portobellos tonight:

http://www.bull-shit.net/shrooms.jpg

arg 09-21-2004 09:31 PM

Whoa, F717 is a serious camera! :) I used a Sony DSC-T1. It's 3.6"x2.4"x0.8", so really compact, though it does seem to have problems focusing close up (even with macro), and seems more prone to being out of focus even on shots even a couple feet away than with bigger extendable-lens cameras. (My last cam was a Sony
DSC-P5 , but the battery died). I'd say a third or half of my mushroom shots turned out blurry, and I don't think it was from shaking the camera. Perhaps it's controllable with more skill, I'm not that familiar with the camera yet.

Here's a full size image of my cabin (2592x1944)...the other pics are shrunken.
