Chris,
mabey goto vancouver, portland, etc to buy a new car. So many dealers want your business, you might save some coin and hassles.. |
haha how ironic, Toyota calls me today to see why I haven't returned to the dealership to close the deal, I toldhim I didn't like the sellers face and attitude,he was swearing at me, like I won't fucing lie to you, i'm sorry i'm swearing, but I'm talking to you like afriend, so I was like I treat my friends with respect, and they do the same, I wanted to buy a car from a salesman, not some old fart with a midlife crisis, and then I told him I might go to the laval dealership and order it there.

Thats fucked up, but the car market really is a cutthroat business and I'm sure you'll be able to find a place that will be able to give you a better price and treat you right.

The only time you should enter a dealership is to test drive the car or sign the paper work.
Send an email to every dealer in your area that has the car you want (most have their inventory online). Tell them you want the drive out price, tags, taxes - EVERYTHING on a specific car or if they don't have an online inventory, tell them what you want and tell them you want the drive out price info to include the model, color and options. Pick the best price for the car you want. Then go to your bank and take out a loan for that amount of money and get a sight draft to take to the dealer. IF the dealer can offer you a better loan, then check it out but do this independently on the price you pay for the car. Don't get addons like rust or weather proofing. If you're borrowing more than 80% of the value of the car, it's best to get Gap Insurance. If there's interest on the car, pay for this separately. And don't trade a car in - sell it on your own :) Car salesman are there to sell you a car at the highest possible price. They are not your friend and if you end up with a car you can't afford, they couldn't care less. But they are business people and if you're serious about buying a car, get the price before you walk in and if they try to change it, walk back out again :) |

sorry to hear thou |
Prices on their cars are set that way so they have plenty of room to bargain with, and still make a profit, if it comes to that. People that pay the price the dealers quote them are getting ripped off, plain and simple. Always, ALWAYS haggle, you will save thousands.
For example when I was looking at getting an RSX, the price they quoted me was something around 27,000. I ended up haggling them down to 23,000, with more options than the original car. Oh, and I wouldn't advise getting a loan from a dealership - they will try their hardest to get you to finance, though, because they get a percentage of the interest rate. Sometimes a very LARGE percentage as well. |
most of them are scum
|
Boy your stupid eh? If a salesman isn't treating you how you want... you fucking walk away and take your money with you, that is the only way to operate.
Also for the most part the probably don't care if you can pay cash, dealerships make money in some crazy ways. |

More than likely, a guy like this has had complaints before, and if this had happened to me, I'd take great pleasure in getting him fired. But maybe I'm just a little bit of an asshole like that, too. :1orglaugh |

Could I have haggled and saved a few extra? I doubt but even if I could, it wasn't worth the time for me. I had watched what these cars were selling for by talking to people who actually bought them at edmunds.com so I know I got a good deal that was fair to me and the salesperson got a decent comission. We were both happy :) |

On my last car, for example, the dealership was asking 23,000 and we got them down to 17,900. There's plenty of little tricks to use. For example, let them believe you are going to finance through their bank (which will earn them extra commission, so they will lower the price of the car), then after they quote you the lowest price you can get, tell them you will be paying in cash. Also, its good to always have someone there with you thats constantly trying to talk you out of the deal, in front of the dealer. For example, bring a friend thats gonna talk about how great his new Subaru is, and how you should get one of them instead. Or how he liked the BMW you test drove at the last dealership. Always keep the dealer on his toes. Even if they know exactly what you're doing, they are greedy and many would rather drop the price and get a low commission than none at all. Who cares if you're both happy, and he gets a good commission? The guy isn't your friend, and his purpose is to screw you over as much as possible. Im only happy when I get his commission as low as possible. :Graucho |

I MIGHT have been able to get them down another $100-200 per car but no, that's not worth my time :winkwink: I've been buying cars this way for years (via phone or fax before the internet) and so far even after the sale I've realized I've always gotten a good deal :) My favorite was my Pathfinder I bought on 12/31 at 3 PM. When I emailed that guy, he gave me a price I KNEW wasn't going to be the same once I got there. But he needed one more car to bump him up to the next level in sales and win all kinds of crap. I sold that car 3 years later for about 18% less than what I paid for it. :thumbsup |
i think are car salesmen are assclowns. Sounds like he's lucky he didn't get his ass kicked
|
Investigate on-line and only go to dealership to test drive. Thats how I bought my last two cars. Told them on-line exactly what I wanted and how much I would pay.
It is much easier to do this with amercian cars, with the bmw they told me what it would cost and the waiting list. |
thanks for sharing your story man! that's disgusting! :Grrrrrr:Grrrrrr:Grrrrrr

2. He's covering his ass, because he doesn't believe your budget can cover what you want and the last thing he wants to deal with is a loan default, reposession, collections, etc. 3. Grab the prick by the neck (figuratively) and offer him a really insulting price. Say $10K for a $15K car, he'll listen if you have cash in your hand and are waving it in front of his face (literally). Don't say anything, just wave the cash around, because the next person that talks loses and people get really emotional when they see cash. You won't get it for $10K, but you'll probably get it for 11 or $12K. |
Fuck the middle man, head straight to the manager... :) If he treats you like shiet, head to the next one.
|
Sorry to hear that man hope your girl and baby are alright, I would go into that dealership go to the boss and tell him you almost lost the baby because of this and you are going to let the news know... I bet you get a hell of deal...
|
Weird that they didnt want your business. It's impossible to walk into a dealership here and not be approached within 30 seconds.
|
ask rick latona about car salesmen ;)

The only way your going to get a good deal on a car is through a broker. If it's a hot car that's on a waiting list, your going to pay MSRP 95% of the time. Maybe he will knock off a few hundred but that's it. PS If your looking for a better deal, go for a lady salesman and tell your little story about you starting your little family and this is why you need the car. |
