AMD or Intel ?

Looking to upgrade my computer.
Was looking at some Intel HT processors on eBay but heard AMD (Barton) are much better and are cheaper.

Which one would u recommend for basic graphic design work and programming? I do have a habit of opening a running of application at once.

flashfire 09-21-2004 02:22 PM

Cypherpunk 09-21-2004 02:56 PM

no need to overclock but hell it is good. i guess most people here go for cheap procs. NO WAY in hell AMD can beat Intel P4 with HT.

in the same category yeah yeah it has the 64 bit procs but for mortals

PENTIUM 4 ROCKS
AMD SUCKS I upgraded to pentium from ATHLON and it is the best I have seen so far.

NoEngrish 09-21-2004 03:25 PM

AMD for me. I have a 2400+ and I love it had it for 2 years now and never had any problems. Im thinking of doing a upgrade to a AMD 64.:thumbsup . Im not a Intel hater I like both but when I bought this computer I was looking for more bang for the buck.

supermann 09-21-2004 03:57 PM

AMD in every possible way

garfield81 09-21-2004 04:22 PM

what amd series would u recommend ?
2600+ ??

LOVE 09-21-2004 04:27 PM

Intel p4 prescott 1024 cache, 800 Mhz.
from 3 Ghz.

Bigjohn 09-21-2004 04:31 PM

I have computers with both AMD and Intel. No difference in what runs or doesn't run, never had any compatibility problems. The last computer I built I put AMD into because I could get more bang for my buck :thumbsup

Freakster 09-21-2004 04:39 PM

I prefer my Intel computers over my AMD... from now on I plan on buying Intel only.. stability issue with AMD in my case..

I would go for an AMD Athlon 64 2800+. I looks like it has a fair price and the 64 bit model should have nice performance.

I myself has a Duron 1400. I don't think you can get them anymore, and the performance sucks donkey balls! Stability is ok though.

yeah i had a duron long time ago and did not like the performance .. so haven't been in touch with AMD's anymore. but now i hear good about them so i might get a AMD.

Thats exactly what I have. Kickass processor :thumbsup

johndoebob 09-21-2004 10:29 PM

AMD = best price / performance relation
Intel = often a bit better performance but priced way to high

It's your choice :thumbsup

PornGeneral 09-22-2004 12:17 AM

I would say go for an AMD chip. Spend what you save on getting things like an better/faster HD, ram, video card, and other goodies.

I run only opteron's which is the AMD server chips on my dedicated boxes. They blow Intel out of the water IMHO when it comes to performance. This is only in the server market though.

I personally have a Dell which came with the Intel chip.

jwerd 09-22-2004 12:19 AM

Amd hands down!
