Anyone here successfully stop smoking in the past two years?
I hate it, I wanan quit I just don't know what the best way is.
What way worked for you? Is the first three days the worst? Will I crave smoking for the rest of my life? I hate being the odd man out I so wanna quit. Does Zyban fuck up your sleep? Have you tried that? |
I stopped 11months ago...the craving are still there when I drink beer hehe...but other than that...it's a piece of cake..I stopped cold turkey..didn't had any problems
|
I dont smoke :)
|
go to the gym
but if you started smoking before 18-17 years old, you'll never stop :( |
Zyban works; but, only if you truly want to quit.
The only way to stop smoking is to stop buying cigarettes...put up with the withdrawal.....and isolate yourself from humanity for a few months. Good luck to you, if you decide to quit. |
i stay from friends who spoke a pack a day just to resist the temptation
|
Im ready to quit im going to join the gym and try Zyban. No one I hang out with smokes so it should be easier.
I think that would be my biggest accomplisment to date. MY G/f hates it too. So i think my time has come. |
I quit smoking May 25th (18 weeks)
Still have cravings, but don't want to fuckin' smoke anymore! Gained a bunch of weight, but that's coming off now! Just do it ... smoking SUCKS AND SMELLS!!! :thumbsup |
I quit smoking almost four years ago now, it was not that bad after the first six months, but for those first six, just stay busy man, or go to sleep
You have to let the nicotine come out of your body....:thumbsup good luck man... |
i tried... :(
|
I am trying to quit right now... I have done it before but was only successful for a few months.
I just do it whatever way works best for me. For me I have to break the habitual smoking, you know the after meal cigarette, the work break cigarette, the get in the car smoke. And don't put pressure on myself .. soon it gets easier and easier to NOT have one when I want one. Then I quit. |
no way dude, I'd never stop smoking crack.
|
Cold Turkey, and its been 10+mnths for me.
Good things to think about once you have stopped are: a) your fingers wont smell shit b) your clothes wont smell like shit c) you wont stink right after a smoke d) My cardio is way way up e) I feel much better f) My lungs feel much much clearer g) I dont spend 10 minutes in the morning horking up shit in the shower or in the sink anymore h) i saved over 3K since I quit i) I could spent the rest of day in listing good things the main thing is that you need to be ready to quit...mentally that is. Anything else will result in a relapse regardless of methods. If you want something bad enough you can make it happen, and im the type of person that if someone tells me I ***CAN'T*** or its ***IMPOSSIBLE*** to do something, it makes me work that much harder to prove them and everyone else wrong. Simply put: < Where there is a will, there is a way. > In the end it all comes down to you, and the question is 'How bad do you want to quit smoking??' On that note, good luck to you :thumbsup |
Just become a bum. Toss your friends a pack every now and then. You will smoke 10X less.
|
I stopped smoking right after my first cig. Juding from you it was probably a good ide to do.
|
I had my last smoke on New Year's Eve and haven't touched one since. How did I do it? I went cold turkey : the only way to properly beat it.
Smoking is a little like going on a diet. You stop eating the chocolate bars. Instead you have one of those low fat, 28 calorie bars; which only make you want to have the REAL thing even more. With smoking, having a patch, pill, or light smokes will only make you crave the real thing. How to quick smoking the EASY way : Have a week off work. Have your last smoke on Sunday night. YOu begin when you wake up Monday morning. Buy yourself some chewing gub. Wrigleys spearming is good. Rent some movies, a shit load. Sleep a lot. Stay in bed, watch movies. The key is getting through the first week. After that first week, you've won 95% of the battle. After a month you'll be over the major hill. After 6 months you know you'll never smoke again. Believe me, it takes a lot of will power, but giving up is that easy. Think about it, you can only smoke if you actually put one to your lips. Do it, you wont regret it. |
I quit. Here is how.
1. Avoid people who smoke. So stay out of bars, casinos at least for a few months. 2. chew lots of gum 3. Go jogging, walking, hiking, swimming, etc. This will really help! 4. Go to google images and type things like "lung" and look for lungs of people who have smoked all their lives. 5. Brush/floss your teen instead of smoking. This will give your hands something to do and insead of making your teeth yellow and your gums recede you will actually be helping them. |
I stopped smoking around 1 1/2 ago. Slowing down my intake I went from 3 packs day to 2 cig's a day. When I felt that I didnt need anymore than that, I quit cold turkey and my body is fine.
I only have to handle the withdrawals and acting bitchy every now and then, but as was suggested keep your hands and mind busy and you'l;l make it |
Yes 100,000's of people quit smoking every year and never go back...of course they are dead due to smoking related illnesses.

Start by making it inconvenient for yourself.
Move your cigs to another room so you have to get up to get them. Make sure you don't smoke in your house. Stay away from bars if you're the type who smokes more when you drink. ---Oh...having drunk with you, that might be a difficult one. :) Wean off....you can use a timer on your oven....go from one an hour to one every hour and a half. Start walking and exercising, which will begin cleaning the toxins out. The only thing we've been able to do to keep our smoking down is not allow smoking in the house. I am hopelessly addicted. |
STEP 1 : LEARN ABOUT YOUR ADDICTION - GO READ THE ARTICLES ON http://www.whyquit.com
STEP 2 : QUIT COLD TURKEY - IN 72 HOURS YOUR BODY WILL BE NICOTINE FREE. I did it 4 years ago.. You can too. |
I quit loads of times! first time was hard really hard but after a week it gets easier
I got thru it thinking.. well I have done a week now and it was hell I am not gonna let that go to waste and by having one I htink you need to stay away form people who smoke! sometimes I smoke when I drink or for a weekend then stop... I have stopped doing this altogether though I had to stay away from the pub for a few weeks to do it after a while you don't want to smoke and the smell really turns you off it |

I really had no problems to stop it ... of course in the first weeks you often have some minutes when you really like to smoke one (after dinner or sex) . But you just have to be stable ... thats it !! I have to say that i really loved smoking ! smoking tastes great ! I just stopped for my son :) just be a little bit strong and you will make it :thumbsup |

good method ... another good way is the opposite ... open a box of cigarettes and put it there where you always can see it ... goto bars where people smoke ... just kick yourself in the ass ... and show yourself that you are a strong personality that is always able to say NO ! :) |
I'm now 2 months free altho I cheated on the weekend..
gotta go cold turkey D...i only crave cigs when I drink. Thank god the bars are now no-smoking...:winkwink: :helpme |
I did, i just didnt go near any cigarettes at all and eventually i forgot about them

I quit on Jan 14th. Cold turkey worked for me. None of this "cut back slowly" bullshit. it never worked so i went cold turkey. You won't "crave" but you will think "gee, a couple smokes would be nice right now" If you really want to quit, you don't need zyban at all. Besides.. Zyban will make you anxious. |
I could quit in a minute if no one around me smoked. The only time I crave is around smokers (mostly at work and at parties) and when I'm driving. So that's the only time I smoke.
|
I quit almost 2 years ago, its amazing how much you hate cigarettes after you quit smoking. The smell is truely awful, I know right now your saying what smell? Hehe Once u quit you can smell a smoker a mile away.
Anyways to quit u have to do it cold turkey as mentioned above, no cigarettes in the house, no friends over to bum one from, stay away from smokers to help keep your mind off it. Also I used the nicotine patches they helped eliminate the cravings the only thing I had to deal with was breaking the habit. It takes a few weeks for you to get over it all but its well worth it. Best of luck to you,. |

I am down to a pack a day, I truly want to quit..... I have done it cold turkey before then started back up again. It's tough when you sit in front of a computer.
|
I stoped smoke after 3,5 years (pack a day). First 14 days was horror. Now I am one year without smoking and I am feeling free:-)
:thumbsup For you... GOOD LUCK! |
More motivation to quit...Smokers lung
http://quits.org/image3.jpg I did quit 2 years ago and hopefully my lungs looks better than that pic :Graucho |
Nicorette Patch! :thumbsup
|
I used the patch and it was easy. :)
Just got myself a good reason to HATE smoking and kept on to that every time i craved. First 3 days are shit, once you get over the first week it gets easier. After you start to detox and the crap starts comming out of your body you can see the damage you were doing. You will find an improvement to year breathing in the first week - and it just gets better :winkwink: Learn to do some breathing excersises. Join a class like Chi Kung or even Tai Chi Good luck :thumbsup |
This is sad. I know more people who have kicked heroin than smoking. They have you and if your not strong as a mofo your not going to escape it.
And to think it's legal. Unreal. |
Wow this is impressive the amount of comments and suggestions.
I just got off the phone with Jstyle's and I think I will take his advice and do the hypno-therapy way. Thanks you very much for all those who took the time and effort to reply. Seems likes its going to be tough but I know I can do it. I never thought of gfy was a spot where I could get an such a flood of intelligent replies. |
this is no time to quit.
you haven't had your first heart attack yet and you are far from having a lung removed due to lung cancer so their is no reason to quit yet. and when you die your family can sue the tobacco people because you smoked. if you quit now you will fuck up all that good work. |
