Blow-Up Sheep Ordeal
 

A business couple are moving offices because a neighbour embarrasses their staff by pretending to have sex with a blow-up sheep and pig. Insurance brokers Patricia and Graham Wadsworth decided to go after a judge ruled that the law could not stop weirdo Stefan Halan's daily performances at a bedroom window. Judge Stephen Gullick said at Bradford Crown Court that 45-year-old Halan's behaviour was 'wholly unacceptable'. But he decided it did not breach a court order made three years ago banning Halan from harassing Patricia. Graham, of Keighley, West Yorks, described the ruling as 'strange' yesterday." ? Unfortunately the stories documenting this case don't quite give all the background info necessary to understand this situation well enough. It's clear that the faux-bestiality "weirdo" simulated sex with a blow-up sheep and pig in his apartment window. Ms. Wadsworth and her employees were able to see these performances from the window by her desk. Rather than just put up a curtain or pull down a shade, Ms. Wadsworth obtained a restraining order. When the exhibitionist continued his performances, she took him to court, claiming that he violated the restraining order. The judge, however, threw the case out because he claimed that there wasn't sufficient evidence that the perp was directing his behavior towards Ms. Wadsworth. In other words, while admitting that the perp's behavior was lewd and unseemly, the judge did not feel that legally it could be proved that the perp's performances were meant to harass Ms. Wadsworth herself. They may just have been public displays of weird behavior, and as such they weren't in violation of the restraining order, which was meant to limit behavior intended to afflict Ms. Wadsworth.

That much is clear ? but as is so often the case, the perp's motive is a crucial element in understanding the story, and yet there is absolutely no insight whatsoever into what causes Mr. Halan to commit these public acts of pseudo-zoerasty. Is he a disgruntled ex-lover who does this simply to rankle the woman in question? Is he a frustrated paramour with an unrequited crush who engages in these displays figuring that some attention from Ms. Wadsworth is better than no attention at all? Or is he just an exhibitionist who enjoys flaunting his perversion before the public at large? The news stories offer no insight, and after the court case the perp made himself "unavailable for comment." No doubt this was wise on his part, since clarifying his motive might have caused the judge to think that he had in fact violated the restraining order.
