at least that's what i thought initially when i saw it. i tapped the glass though and it was still alive.

but, with some research:
"If you should notice the tarantula on it's back, don't fret, this is the normal molting position and the spider is not dead. The molting process may take several hours to complete. When entering a molt, your spider may refuse food for anywhere from a week to several months. It will often develop a black shiny cast to the skin of abdomen as it's new skin begins separating from the old one."

look's like in a few hours im gonna have myself a nice skin to throw at people n' freak 'em out

nice spider, I used to keep scorpions and just picked up a chinese water dragon this weekend.

good ol' crickets. although they can generally eat anything smaller than themselves. (from what i've read)

My tarantula is 9 years old now. I have over 8 of those shedded skins. Freaks people out when they enter my office, as the latest is on top of the thing he's in. They always think he's just sitting there out in the open, lol.

he's fully out of the skin now, looks awkward, his belly is straight up and his legs are all tucked in lol.

Make sure you get the skin out as soon as possible, as it gets hard very fast, if you take it out fast you can 'shape' it into the original form, which makes it look like a real spider.

I'll get some pics of the skins if I can find some, I recently moved and I only have the one from the time he shed in this place.

I did post some pics of it here years ago already though, if the search would still work you could find it;)

Although I have heard that their bite is as poisonous as bee sting to humans. I don't know if that is true or not, but once I heard that I felt better about them. :)

We used to feed ours little baby mice (when they are still pink, no fur)

Sweet. He is pretty cool looking as well.
