That would be illegal of course. After I buy the laser discs I will rip them myself and do just that.

Are there really enough changes in the special editions to ruin them? I read a bunch of reviews over at Amazon.com and it was like 50/50 with most negatives sounding like things only the most hardcore fans would even notice.

Apparently everyone is bitching because they never released the original versions without the touched up special effects. All the changes looked OK to me, except for that scene where they added Jabba the Hutt walking with Han Solo.

I'm still waiting on mine arriving.

I prefer the Special Editions. Although admittedly, some of the new scenes weren't needed, or look a bit silly (Greedo shooting at Han first), i think they do help the films overall.

But whenever i watch the original versions now, i always think "oh yeah you should see a spaceship there" or something like that...

I don't like the explosion of the Deathstar, they changed it and it looks bad.
