I can hook you up with some hot LAC action.
EU is available from us but we're mostly placing in LAC.

I'm pretty ignorant to the whole Merchant Account thing, except that I know I don't need one if I use a third party processor.

Can anyone get a merchant account as long as they have a couple of hundred dollars to spend, or are there other requirements?

Sorry if I'm off base... if it's not a couple of hundred, then what would be the range?

How much it costs to set up & rates are dependant on your volume, processing history and risk rating. Watch out for people who want a large fee before even handling paperwork. And if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is, especially these days.

Thanks for the pointers MattO.... just filled in a form on your site so look forward to hearing from you :)

Incidentally Theodor, merchant accounts will likely be way cheaper in the long run. CCBill are great but it's scarey how much I pay them in fees each week.

My wife and I retained CCBill for processing about three years ago, but we let the site die for various reasons. We never had a problem with chargebacks, so we don't really have a high risk history that I would be aware of.

Right now, we have retained Paycom (for various reasons) to do the processing on our new sites, but there are a few fundamental issues that I am sure everyone would have a problem with.

Firstly, most of you know my wife on the boards, but you don't know us as a "Sponsorship" type entity. If we use Paycom, then no one would have the definite protection that "We Will Get Paid" like if we were to use CCBill, and possibly iBill. From what I understand, Paycom doesn't pay Webmasters, but I haven't checked into this fully as of yet.

That isn't saying that we wouldn't pay, that's just saying that we don't have a history with anyone showing that we DO pay or WOULD pay. I think that's why a lot of people like CCBill or iBill.

So, Rosie, would you be getting a merchant account and having CCBill process on the merchant account, or processing by yourself on your own merchant account?

Is there a significant advantage to doing it either way, and wouldn't it be protection (to a point) for you to use a IPSP and THEIR merchant account?

For us I think the ideal would be to have our own (independant from CCBill) merchant account, but stay with CCBill as back-up processor.

I don't feel particularly protected by going through a 3rd party biller right now. We got hammered by GloBill and now with all the current iBill problems I don't feel that ANY 3rd party processor is invulnerable. That said, I do believe that CCBill will be among the last 3rd party processors standing
