Ever heard of a JEWISH PICKLE????
 

Okay where I'm from we call them Jewish pickles. They're the ones you get in deli's and you cut them yourself for your sandwiches or whatever.

Anyway in wawa last night I asked the girl if she had any jewish pickles and then she asked this dude (who looked jewish) and he looked at me (mind you I was stoned with munchies) and said...we prefer to call them deli pickles it's more appropriate. Well I couldn't hear all that well what he was saying....so I just kind of smiled and nodded but thought about what he said. Then I sat there trying to figure out IF I had offended him. So my question is...is JEWISH pickle a slang? Is it offensive? I've never heard them called anything else...I just thought that's what they were called. Maybe it's a philly thing. Someone enlighten me.

yeah we call it a kosher dill here as well, never heard of Jewish Pickle. You never know, you might have offended him, there is a nut that used to be referred to as hahahahahaha Toes, forget correct name at the moment but they are really common and thats what everyone called them, now its not appropriate.

But kosher dill's that I buy in the jar taste much different than the "jewish" pickles. I dunno....it was just weird cause I have NEVER heard them called anything different.

Never heard of a Jewish pickle. I have heard of deli pickles and kosher pickles. I really doubt he took any serious offense, was just informing you that "kosher" is the common and preferred (at least to him) term.

So jewish isn't unheard of, but isn't common. Could be a regional thing. Like in a New York deli, I think you'd get the response you got, but maybe in Boise Idaho they'd wonder what a "deli pickle" was and call it a Jewish pickle. Where are you from? I'm from Michigan.

the other ones are just called deli pickles or deli spears ( when they are quartered ) i dont even think you need the kosher part when you ask for em like that. And they do taste a bit different.. * its prob all the flies that land in the pickle juice * :Graucho

I'm in Philadelphia and there's lots of stuff here that no one has heard of and maybe we make up words, I dunno. I just think that dude thought of it as "slang" or something which I NEVER knew and if I did, I wouldn't say it. Oh well, we DO learn something new every day. =)

I think it's a Philly thing.....or east coast in general.....I've not heard it called that since I moved west.

I noticed in my quick googling that Philly was mentioned on some of the sites that said Jewish pickle, so it's probably a local term.
