Cardinals Retire Pat Tillman's Jersey

Cardinals Retire Pat Tillman's Jersey

Personal feelings about the war aside, how many of us would give up a multi-million dollar career to do what we thought was right? In that respect, I can't hold a candle to this man.

kmanrox 09-20-2004 03:35 AM

R.I.P. Pat!

That wasn't the question. Would you give up a multi-million dollar career for something that you thought was right? Judging by your answer, I'm willing to bet you wouldn't give up shit for what you believe in.

Pat Tillman is an American hero; he gave up millions of dollars to fight for his country so you guys can sit on your ass at home and enjoy your everyday lives. If nobody volunteers to serve than the govt would be pulling people like you to fight; think about that. Pat Tillman defines nobility.

i was at the game yesterday.. Cardinals against the Patriots when they retired his Jersey #40

It was a nice ceremony...and all the players had the #40 on their helmets.

This is typically American and defies logic. Here's a guy who was foolish enough to serve as canon fodder and get himself killed, leaving his children without a father, and yet we're supposed to look at him as some kind of hero? I admire people who rise to the top and get others to die for them, not cretins with a death wish. Turning his back on his family and millions of dollars isn't admirable, it's sheer stupidity worthy of the Darwin awards.

I think we should just NUKE Europe and be done with it.

You mean the ones in the west who are still living under the Taliban? Or the ones who work with doctors without borders, who got killed by the Taliban this summer?

You're an idiot.

Pat Tillman gave up the American dream to defend his country. He didn't WANT to die. But he knew the risk. He was a man who put principle above money. He would be a hero in ANY COUNTRY. He is a better man than I will ever be. And now, in death, he's a role model.

Plan9 09-21-2004 01:18 AM

As much as Im opposed to the war, I have to say, that guy was a true american hero. Really is the definition of the word, I must say, and that was a completely selfless act. I only wish he could have lived.

Sure, but, he died for nothing. I'm not saying his intentions weren't good, but his death did not accomplish anything, so that statement is hard for a rational person to argue with.

So far that war has accomplished absolutely nothing, besides killing Pat Tillman and thousands of others. Wow half the country has a US supported "President" and only half the country is under warlord control, what a great accomplishment. Too bad it will be worse than before in two years when the US leaves. They haven't even found Bin Laden or slowed down terrorist attacks.

For the bashers in this thread, say those words to any Veteran face-to-face and see if you don't get knocked the fuck out.

Sickens me to death to see people that don't seem to understand FREEDOM IS NOT FREE!!

To many people have been spoiled and shielded from the realities of the world.

I agree that Iraq was a mistake. But Afghanastan is another story. That country was a cesspool for terrorists. Driving the Taliban from power was worth it.

TheMob 09-21-2004 01:28 AM

Rest in peace Pat Tillman

Have you been to Iraq or Afghanistan how the hell do you know what has been accomplished over there? My cousin just got back from Iraq, the news reports are sensationalized and do not even tell the whole story. His e-mails sent and the stories he has told me is worth more then a "one sided" news clip of 15 seconds.

EDIT: And he has opted to volunteer to go back with another unit.
