hosting/server question
a forum that gets about 1000 new users a day and serves video/images. Averages about 500 active users at once and this seems to go up about 100 users every 3 weeks.
what do you think is better for this type of site one power house box unmetered or 3 average servers at 1200GB a piece running that sync and round robin stuff. Trying to get an idea what would work best for me and I'm webserver challenged :winkwink: |
No need for three servers.

Doesnt sound like you need all that hardware, at most you would need two servers, one for www and one for mysql. One configured to get the most out of Apache and the other to get the most out of MySQL, hit me up on icq at 36837470 I'll set you up with some great DELL servers at realitychecknetwork.com at lower rates than whats quoted online.

We can build you a Xeon server with
10,000 rpm hds and 2048 mb ram and it will take care of it. Bandwidth on boards is not really the issue, its the mysql processes using up the system resource. Specially the search functions. http://www.ServerProvider.com :) |
i wanna know what your forum is
sounds like fun :) |
You'll need two servers, one for apache and one for the MySQL. Some nice 10K RPM SCSI hard drives on the database server, with 2-3GB of RAM.
If your looking to get a good setup going, hit me up and lets talk. 100% guaranteed network uptime 100% guaranteed power uptime 85ms national average latency |

We also could provide you server!
ICQ me for private offer! |
Two servers will be the best solution. This way you can easily expand and add more into the cluster. One will be dedicated to MySQL and the first "node" will be assigned to web traffic and running the board itself only. As your needs grow, you can easily do round robin load balancing and add in another httpd server....
I would highly recommend making the MySQL server raided across a 7 disk array because with boards, especially busy ones, the disk speed becomes a big bottleneck. We can config all of that for you with no problems and pretty fairly priced as well. Give us a shout. http://www.splitinfinity.com |
