Who Here Has A Home Alarm?
We just got ours installed the other day, works awesome! Even has motion sensors everywhere.
Pretty cool shit! :) DH |
they seem to be more hassle than they're worth. i remember neighbors alarms going off all the time for no reason.
|
I didnt know there was crime in Canada. I thought you guys kept your doors unlocked :winkwink:
I caught a stranger looking into my windows and freaked. I got adt installed and I sleep a lot better now. |
The one at my office is kickass. 2 minute police response time. Got the scare of my life when I thought I had locked up, lol.

I have one, but the funny thing people do not realize, is that once the phone line is cut, the alarm is no good... until someone monitoring it decides they did not recieve some kind of a signal back, this could be ten minutes, or it could be an hour and a half, so basically oncce the phone line is cut, the alarm is rendered usless.
|
i had to have the guy fix the mottion detectors because the dog kept jumping up on the coach and setting it off
|
The cops still take too long to respond to calls. The punks know they have atleast 5 minutes to take what they want. The best alarm is a big dog

and i agree with Spunky1 we lived in an area that was being burglarized ...we also had a 140 shepherd...i am quite sure when they went past scouting out nice places etc....they just kept driiving..this dog would look you right in the eye when you were in your car..often people wouldnt get out...grown men would sit in their car until i came outside..lol |
if you have any outward signs that you have an alarm you just told the crooks you have something to protect.
local pharmacy had an alarm system so the crooks cut the phone lines, electric and eveything else and then cleaned the place out. took the safe they kept the drugs in and all. |
I mean do not get me wrong, it is still good to have one, just understand, it is not for burglaries that you are getting it for, it is more for the heat detection units, and the medical panic buttons etc.... and if an amature trys to rob your house, but alarms are not a cure all by any means.:2 cents:

I don't have my home atm, but I just installed an alarm on my car :Graucho

I have one, and I figure even if the line gets cut, my alarm screams, and my neighbors come looking to see if everything's ok if they hear it go off for more than a minute or so. Mine has a cool hostage code thing where if you get ambushed at the door and forced to turn the alarm off you can punch in the hostage code and the alarm looks like it's turned off, but the service sends the cops in with no sirens or lights. Being a woman, it makes me feel safer. I'm more worried about some psycho harming my kids or myself than stealing my stuff...stuff can be replaced.

Part of my "What I learned with no power for 40 hours" post on another board:
When the battery back up for the alarm dies (approx 14 hours), the alarm will chirp every 10 seconds for at least 3 hours. At this time, you can start pulling wires to make it stop and it will. When the power comes back on, you will realize you apparently pulled the wrong wires as it starts chirping AGAIN and you're forced to yank the whole damn thing from the electrical system. I also found out a year or so ago that if something big falls on the floor, like, say a mirror, it will set the glass breakage alarm off and the police will check your house out for you :) |
Just take a look at all the smash and grabs, they steal cars and ram front doors of any type of business. They waltz around for atleat 5 minutes gathering stuff...stupid pigs are stuffing their mouths with donuts rather then check out b&e's

My 2 main reasons for having an alarm: 1. I want it to go off if I'm in the house and someone breaks in 2. I want it to go off in case of fire - even if I'm gone. I couldn't care less if someone breaks in and takes everything while I'm gone. It's all insured. That said, I haven't turned the damn thing on in over 2 years. :( |
We have a really good system...it's not perfect though. Just gives you enough time to have a gun ready for anyone who might be down stairs etc

apparently my new place has one
|
i bet you will stop using it after 3 months or so
things are freakin annoying espically motion censors |
I always get bastards calling my place asking me if I want a home alarm. I figure they're probably burglars looking for an easy house to rob.
And yes, I have a home alarm. |

Nope - don't need one here as crime is very low and we have a security guard at the gate just in case - need someone to open the gate.
|
Best thing is still a barky dog and lights that turn on and off via a timer.
Also, a big alarm sign in the front yard does not hurt. The actual alarm does very little. |

Came with the house, annoying when you open doors or windows.
