Why have the 2257 talks stopped
Anyone notice that there wasnt much threads made about the 2257 in the last 2 weeks. I wonder why that is

I think people just got sick of it...
|
Because we've all moved our shit to Mongolia.
|
Many people seem to be moving servers to other countries from what we have seen too.
|
moving servers to other countries wont get rid of the issue.... move it all you want, the domain still belongs to the states, and is being viewed here... i think have read it and realized how stupid their questions were, when all they had to do is do a little bit of research :2 cents:

Like always a good chunk of the people will use the recent time tested plan of ignore and bury head in sand.
These will be the same people with no knowledge or history of what happened in the 80's. They just see those that talk about such government intrusions as chicken little's. |
The smart ones consulted lawyers, and/or did a lot of reading on the subject
The not so smart ones just asked for advice without doing their own research |

If you have not fixed it yet you need to start thinking about getting your site off line or praying no one knocks on your door. |
earlier today, I saw a newbie on another board asking about 2257
I could hardly believe my eyes when I read the reply of one of the most respected people in the business, one who all the new people look up to, saying that the government never did anything about it before, so what makes us think they'd do something about it now.. the sheer ignorance of people never ceases to amaze me |

Who the regs apply to or their roles in record keeping is not changing from the old regs to the new regs. Even if you didn't bother to read the old regs and the new ones, this was explicitly stated so by the DOJ in their original announcement.
Secondary producers have always been required to keep copies, but the Sundance case made this a possible grey area for certain secondary producers. This was something the updated regs do not address. The part that got Sundance off the hook is still there and they could have easily re-worded it, but didn't. |
