Do they stream these online? If so, how can I see if my local police line is streamed somewhere? Is there a way?

you can get a list of scanner sites on google, some good some dead.
most police departments are going to a "trunked radio" system which is hard to follow because it keeps changing frequency.

Do you have to have any codes or anything or does it just scan all frequencies in a certain range?

You can get fregquency codes all over the Net. That Pro 94 has built-in preprogrammed scan ranges also.

In a disaster its a good piece of equipment to have, because you here what's really happening in your community and not the filtered news version of it.

I was picking up the FPL crews talking and you could here a lot about the problems they were really having, when the corporate execs were on the news bsing like everything was coming along just fine.
