My Family Hit Hard By Ivan

Just found out yesterday that my Dad's walk-in clinic is totally underwater. His clinic was on Perdido Drive right across from the ocean on Orange Beach.

He evacutated up to the north of Alabama to get away from the storm and everyone is fine. But also his house on Ono Island might have been destroyed at this point... He is contacting the command center they are setting up to so that residents of Orange Beach can see if there homes are damaged or even standing.

He also owns other property in the area and fears that those buildings have been seriously damaged...

Luckily he is 100% insured but the deductibles are extrememly high so he might have to pay out up to 15K per property before they even start any work. Plus good luck finding a contractor as they will all be so busy the next few months it will be impossible to get anything done right away.

Looks like Dad's going to be hitting me up for a loan, after all the years I have been borrowing from him ;)

Anyways all that matters is that my family is safe, sure there will be a few tough months for them coming but they will be ok.

Here is a pic of the road that they live on

That tall structure on the left of that photo looks like a bomb hit it.

Glad to hear that your family is safe. In the end, that's what counts. Buildings can be rebuilt.

John_Doe 09-18-2004 10:59 AM

I sympathize with you Drinking Hard, My family lost their house in Grande Lagoon.... looks like a bomb went off. Not to mention I think my office was blown away too.

crockett 09-18-2004 11:00 AM

damn man, hope he wasn't hit as bad as you guys think.

Tala 09-18-2004 11:01 AM

Holy fuck. :(

I'm glad that you're all okay. It looks terrible down that way. :(

Steve 09-18-2004 11:01 AM

That is terrible to hear. Hope everything works out for him asap.

Spunky 09-18-2004 11:02 AM

That sucks man..just terrible what the people went through this year

GTS Mark 09-18-2004 11:03 AM

The thing that is funny is that my family is quite used to hurricanes at this point. They board up the house and clinic and just take off whenever there is a hurricane coming.

They never imagined this one would be as bad as it was. :(

Ono island? From what I hear, Ono island is underwater.

Either way, sorry to hear about your familys loss.

jscott 09-18-2004 11:29 AM

thats horrible man, sorry to hear :(

i'm still waiting to see what kind of damages my area got, hopefully i still own anything.....all my shit is/was in a storage garage right on the gulf (in florida) :(

Doctor Dre 09-18-2004 11:34 AM

That really sucks ... good thing he was insured

Dead13 09-18-2004 11:43 AM

Wow that really sucks for you guys, but good to see no one was harmed.

Just imagine what the familes who do not have any money must have to go through. THEY cannot afford 15k to start anything and they may very well be totally fucked if the gov does not offer up enough to get them back up and running.

Not going to be pretty for anyone in that area for a while.

JFK 09-18-2004 11:45 AM

Sorry to hear that DH...........

Posting on generator power at the office. Unbelievable our T1 is up. What a fucking mess. Glad your pops is ok DH. From what I hear people in Grand Lagoon woke up with bodies in their yards. I took a shitload of pics and video until around 12pm as Ivan was making landfall. Scariest shit ever. Still no power at home and the bugs and heat are begining to get unbearable. To those in the damage areas reading this, take care of yourselves and your neighbors!

Screaming 09-18-2004 12:19 PM

those poor people, God Bless and I hope the Red Cross and other organizations can help get the place some what back together soon:(

Makingcoin 09-18-2004 12:22 PM

Glad to hear your family is safe and sound. That is the most important thing like you mentioned.

KennyGSS 09-18-2004 12:39 PM

Thats why you never name anything after a Russian. You know its gonna cause nothing but huge problems. And it is gonna mangle something but good. so no more naming after commrades.

Damn, that's rough! I lived in the south for a year. Never had a hurricane, but the thunderstorms and tornados were enough to make me ship my ass back to Seattle!

If you guys need anything, let me know...
I have two spare twin beds and a couch and loveseat-family and pet friendly. I'd be happy to give temporary shelter. :)

We lived in the South, too....never had effects from hurricanes....

I do remember, however, hauling ass out of Florida right before Andrew hit. I think that was in '87.

Now, I live forty miles north of a volcano, wired for sound.

Go figure.

Here's hoping all those in Ivan's path get the help they need. Soon.
