Avoid that place like the deadly plague... That place is known to rip people off, use returned "faulty goods" as new. They'll give you hassle when retuning goods, they don't like honoring warrenty... just a heads up.

PS> Use that site only for pricematching cause they seem to have the best prices in town.

laptop wise that lappy needs more ram :p

HP makes some nice ones, but they are heavy. Sony has some very light ones.

But I think that MAC makes the most powerful light weight ones.

I have a VPR Matrix. Nice laptop and beatuiful design.

You can pick them up cheap. I bought mine brand new, but I'm seeing them around for $1200ish now.

John_Doe 09-17-2004 10:57 PM

I have a DELL and love it. I got it last Christmas and haven't had any problems with it as of yet.

Normally when something breaks under warranty you take it back to the place with receipt and they give you a new one. This place will tell you to fuck off.

Webgurl do yourself a favor and do NOT buy a HP/Compaq. Absolute complete garbage... The performance on them are awful!

I only buy Toshiba and Sony Vaio's now.

If you go to London Drugs they should have some great Toshiba's on display you can check out. That is where I bought my badboy 17" Toshiba Satellite.

I never cheap out now when it comes to buying the best equipment, it's totally worth it in the long run.

DH

austinth 09-18-2004 09:59 AM

Hey Webgurl, go to London Drugs, look at the Toshiba's or the new Sony's. I've had my Toshiba now for a few years and it's been incredible. Had one small issue with the motherboard and the warrantee covered it no proplems.

austinth 09-18-2004 10:00 AM

I've also got a smaller ibm that I use for travel purposes and it too has been rock solid.

Peaches 09-18-2004 11:51 AM

I swear I think it depends on what computer you get on which day! I've had awesome luck with HP and Dell and horrible Toshibas. :(

bogo 09-18-2004 11:52 AM

Sony Vaio

webgurl 09-18-2004 11:59 AM

Thanks guys and gals ,
forsure I am NOT getting HP / Compaq as for DELL they are good in terms of specs and prices
but do they have anything lightweigh and compact size ?
So far no negative feed back for both brands I am looking at Fujitsu and Sony ,
these are 2 I am going to get forsure yes they are little more pricey but its worth it :2 cents:
I am looking to spend around 3K

Kimmykim 09-18-2004 12:01 PM

Sony Vaio. I'm on my fourth one and wouldnt think of using anything else.

Yeah, if you're looking to spend $3K get the Vaio. Lightweight and powerful. I wanted to save money more than I wanted lightweight and I went for the Dell, but if I was carting it around a lot, the Vaio wins :)

I thought they stopped making VPR Matrix? At least that's what they told me at Best Buy. I've bought 2 VPR Matrix desktops & I loved them, but I can't get them anymore.

Anyway, for laptop, I advise against the Sony. They're loaded with all kinds of shitty software. I've just always had bad luck.

I'd say get an IBM T40P or better .....or if you want cheap, BestBuy has a good cheap Gateway.

Ok here is the breakdown of my experience...

Fujitsu Lifebook-- Noisey fans/drives, software issues, slow hard drive. Great screen and Awesome tech support!

IBM Thinkpad T42 - All 3 I had, had multiple dead pixels and display problems. Lousy support

Alienware Sentia -Fast and Light! Super fast Hard Drive (7200rpm) and only 3.8 pds.

Compaq/HP - Not so much bang for your buck. Cheap OS (only partial componets installed, so if you crash, your screwed) THE WORST tech support on the planet.

DELL - Not bad machines, but slow hard drives and Horrid Tech Support... There machines never have consistant parts in them

I have a Toshiba and I really like it. I do need more ram though. We bought it for me to just use in the kitchen to just check on things. I fell in love so I use it all the time and with only 256 of ram Photoshop etc. is too slow
