Questions about adding subdomains...

About 30 mins ago, I set up some new subdomains on a domain of mine. They're not available yet. Do I have to wait for them to propagate, like a regular domain name? How long should it take?

I kinda know how long but did a google search to give you a better answer.....

Any time you make a DNS (domain name server) change it takes around 24-48 hours to complete. During this proprogation time routers all over the world are updating their cache. This causes your site to be up and down randomly during the first 48 hours for different people at different times. Think of dns like a zip code. If you don't put a zip code on your mail the post office doesn't know where to send it. Domains are the same way if they don't have the DNS the internet doesn't know what server to send your request to.

no you just have to create a A dns record

say temp IN A 209.237.255.17

so that would be temp.epiccash.com

and reload named

i dont know if you admin your own servers but thats how i would do it from the command line or you use cpanel.

Yep, you need a DNS entry before they will work.

if your running the dns it should display instantly

If you make a sub domain it should show up instantly. The DNS of the main domain name still points to the same host, so when they add a sub domain it still goes to the host - and then the host directs it to the right place.
