that is a good point, but Chula Vista is close enough I could have him killed

johndoebob 09-16-2004 04:02 PM

0 feedback - use common sense... :2 cents:

Btw. I'd buy a fake one with an even better clockwork for half the price, not even jewelry guys can tell the difference and there are no legality problems as long as you don't buy fake papers and sell it as a real one.

Alex 09-16-2004 04:03 PM

have him send you a video of it

johndoebob 09-16-2004 04:07 PM

Just looked at the pictures again and it looks fake to me (no holo changing and I don't see any papers or box).

ytcracker 09-16-2004 04:14 PM

i dont think thats real

JFK 09-16-2004 04:20 PM

That watch looks like a steel and gold datejust with a thunderbird bezel. NO WAY is it platinum, I would have to see a close up of the dial to see if it may be factory. and the 0 feed back should tell you something

SplitInfinity 09-16-2004 04:21 PM

Tis real. :-)
Call Rolex, they verify the serial number and model/make of watch.
:-)

erehwon 09-16-2004 04:28 PM

I can't really tell from the pics, play it safe, give him a call, offer him $2750 if he will meet you at an authorized Rolex dealer for them to confirm if its a real Rolex or not, if it real and he wants the cash, he'll agree to it, otherwise save your $$$.

I had a similar deal in Chicago and the party balked at meeting me at my local dealer with the watch.

you guys are both in cali

This seems like the best way

PersianKitty 09-16-2004 04:35 PM

It is not gold and platinum. It is gold and stainless steel. The 3 in the model number on the back (16263) stands for the material used.

$50-100 consultation fee usually has worked in the past.

karlm 09-16-2004 05:12 PM

I've never liked Rolex's. They're too common and not complicated looking for the money you pay.

imageman 09-16-2004 06:20 PM

Meet the guy at Leo Hammels in Old Town, San Diego they can tell you on the spot if its real and they are 15 mins drive from Chula Vista.

aflex 09-16-2004 06:32 PM

becareful when buying rolex off ebay.

i can get most rolex models at 10% above wholesale cost (no daytonas), of course i'll add something for myself but it will beat many prices you will find. hit me up [ staykeen at aol.com ]

GiantGnome 09-16-2004 06:46 PM

does he have bill of sale, full one year warrenty certificate with serial number and watch number(signed by buyer), Original box with serial number sticker on it and watch case containing the chammy cover you wrap the watch in?

scoreman 09-16-2004 06:58 PM

Seller has zero feedback and has been an ebay member since may 03? ehhhhhhhhhh strike one

Read his return policy:
Sold As Is. Seller will help move site and educate buyer of site functionality and contents. This is a nice site with a large member base and large potential. Were sure the right buyer will make lots of money off of this. Site stats can be viewed on www.alexa.com No refunds. All Sales are Final. No Cooling off period.
A seller of an authentic Rolex would not have to say: all sales final, no refunds, no cooling off period, sold as is. Think he doesnt want this watch back? Wonder why? strike 2

Those are the worst pics. How about a shot of the back opened so you can see the movement or some nice shots of the face? Steeerrrike Threeee yeerrr outta here....

I wouldnt buy this watch unless I could meet the seller at a jewelers and have that puppy cracked open.

<------has a ss datejust, gold/ss datejust, a 1950s 14k bubbleback, and a early 60s 1016 explorer.

Goatse 09-16-2004 08:29 PM

I wouldn't touch that auction with a ten foot pole. If you're going to buy a Swiss timepiece, do so at a reputable dealer. If you're looking to save a few hundred bucks, you're too poor to buy a Rolex.

I can only think of one occupation somebody living in Chula Vista (or National City for that matter) must have to be able to afford a Rolex

way to shakey with no feed back thats alot of money to spend on something that doesnt appear to be real and is being sold by someone that has never bought or sold anything on ebay as far as you know. VERY SCARY

FreeFastHost 09-16-2004 09:58 PM

I wouldn't trust ebay.

I just bought a stainless steel Air King Rolex for around $2500 from my local jewler. Looks just like that one without the gold.

KRL 09-16-2004 10:07 PM

Nothing wrong with buying pre-owned watches, however I would recommend a hands on transaction just to be safe.

AnalProbe 09-16-2004 11:42 PM

Say NO to Ebay !

He can show you the real one and send you the fake (or nothing).

Buy a ticket to Switzerland, Zurich, Bern, especially Luzern, and I'll give you some tips to get them for 22% less.

You will have a lower price, a nice trip, and a real Rolex.
