What's The Difference Between Picante Sauce and Salsa?
 

I've always bought Pace brand Picante sauce thinking it was salsa. Today they were out so I got some Old El Paso Salsa and they tasted pretty much the same. I looked at the jars and one says it's "Picante Sauce" and the other one says it's "Salsa".

I'm confused. Anyone care to enlighten me? :batman

Picante is hot. Salsa isn't necesarily hot. It can at times be two different names for the same thing. Whatever.

Salsa = Sauce (not necessarily from tomatoes)
Picante = A salsa made from tomatoes (onions and peppers)

All picante sauce is a salsa, but not all salsa is a picante
sauce.

i always thought salsa was fresh and picante wasnt and that its cooked

Picante Sauce is made in San Antontio by people who know what picante should taste like...That other stuff is made in New York City!!!

Salsa = sauce
Picante = hot

I would even be more precise:

SPANISH words , but spoken by mexicans !

To be precise it's Mexican-Spanish. The same as Montrealers speak Canadian-French.
