Recommend a $1,000 laptop and where to get it
 

I'm looking for a big-ass desktop replacement that will live beside me on the couch.

Weight and portability are NOT issues. Nor battery life.

Reliability, warranty, and service are my biggest concerns, secondary is CPU/RAM, third is screen size (15"+), and fourth are extras such as DVD/RW, GPU, internal wireless, etc...

Get a Dell Inspiron 1150 or a 1000.

One is slightly over the thousand mark, the other is under 800, respectively.

Costco best price for new laptops. Don't do less then a p4 with mobile tech. HT would be Ideal.

Circuit City (find or wait for a floor model, you will probably reformat any system anyways.)

A friend of mine just ordered a 1150 yesterday. 2.8 P$, wireless networking, 60 gig HD, 512 MB RAM, DVD,CDRW combo drive, AND the wireless router and other assorted stuff... $1473.04 including shipping.:thumbsup

12" ibook will cost you about 1K, think about it.
