Quitting smoking

I am on day 2 without a cigarette. I used to smoke 2 packs a day for the last 10 years.

The withdraws are really starting to get to me.. I am going cold turkey.

Is there anybody here that has quit?

When can I expect these withdraws to stop? Any tips?

Eating seems to take my mind off of it, but I don't think I can eat anything else.. I am just to full

I quit smoking 5 years ago for 3 yeas, been back to it for 2. The crave really NEVER left especially after a good meal, waking up or after a good fuck. I quit cold turky its rough, it does get easier after about 2 weeks.

I was smoking 2 packs a day up to about a week ago, now I smoke about 3 cigs and a joint a day. Going to try and quit all together here very soon!!! Well NOT the 1 joint just the cigs.

I think it the constant motion of the hand to mouth thats roghest to break, I gained 25 lbs. the first time I quit. BUT not going to this time.

Even though I find it disgusting.. I am seriously thinking about buying one of those round cans of tobbacco "Skoal" or whatever they are called.

I just need a nicotine fix. A fix without breaking my no smoking streak

The craving never leaves? I am not liking how that sounds.

Good luck..It's one of the toughest habits to break

I quit for the 2nd time in my life before XMas. Cold turkey. I still get cravings. After a couple weeks things get better... Get some gum... Get a pen to twirl in your fingers.. get plenty of distractions.. If you're getting strong cravings, get up and go do something for 15 minutes.. a walk.. play a PS2 game or something.. Get deep into some project that keeps your mind on it all the time...

i've tried quitting but it didn't work... i think as long as we see people most especially if they are our peers who smokes,we can't avoid it. but let's see! maybe you can quit.. goodluck!:)

Thanks for the tips. I have found that jogging works.

I have cancelled any plans of partying the rest of this month.

I am afraid of getting drunk and slipping

The withdrawals never totally stop. They reappear once in a while but ya gotta just tough it out. I quit 6 years ago after smoking for 13 years.

Dude.. thats why I threw away all my ash trays and cancelled all partying. I am avoiding all personal contact with my smoker friends until I can get this resolved:winkwink:

i used to smoke 3 packs a day for the last 2 yearrs but now im tryin' to lessen it down because sometimes my chest really hurts and im really havin' a hard time breathing... but, i know it would take some time for me to stop coz man., t's really hard ...

It's really hard to quit. Once you do - and you try to go back, the cig is never as good as you remember. It just seems that once you fall of the wagon....your like fuck it...and smoke again...sometimes more then you did before you quit! Keep your chin up and stay away from people that smoke for atleast two weeks if you can. Being around drinking, bars and other smokers makes it near impossible. Once your withdrawl slows down - you will start to feel better. Oh and one last thing....you will cough like crazy for the first couple of months...your lungs are trying to get rid of all the tar!

You can do it :BangBang: :smokin

Thats the main reason why I quit. I was getting chest pains. I woke up after a night of partying and my chest was killing me.

The sharp pain when you take a deep breath. The pain stopped but I am still short of breath.

I didn't think smoking could have a impact like that on me at such a young age. But it does!

HammerTime33 09-15-2004 09:56 PM

Thats why I started the 2nd time, a beer in one hand and a smoke in the other.

After awhile you do feel really great, you get energy you never knew you had, better blood circulation means HARDER erections too. :) ther is reason #2 to quit !!

Bro if ya goto snuff, then ya LIPS fall off from cancer, whats the difference between that and lung cancer? It still kills you

COLD TURKEY is the best way, I have been trying to quit granteed I am down from 2 packs a day to 3 cigs a day, but I planned on that lasting a day or two two weeks later I still at 3 cigs a day. No healing going on untill ya quit completely fer about 3 to 4 weeks then your lungs EMPTY and thats not fun either but after wards you can climb mt everest run 10 miles or screw yer brains out and feel great about it.

media 09-15-2004 09:57 PM

I quit cuz I started hacking up blood clots from a major thraot infection from smokin..

Thanks for the support people!

It gave me a extra boost of confidence :)

It will be one year on October 5th since my last cigarette and I have NEVER felt better. I quit cold turkey. For some reason, those 'stop smoking gradually' plans never worked for me. You can do it.

I quitted around 7 months ago, really aint counting now that after a good couple of months i don´t even recall my last cig.

I was one of those "i would fucking die if i have to quit smoking, even if the prices raises, i will keep puffin´!", one of those die-hard smokers, up to 30 cigs a day, 50 on the weekends.

One day out of the blue, i decided that this wasnt for me. Had a horrible, depressive day and the nicotine was only making it worst, plus the cough and the chest pain and that bronchitis that was never going away. So, i smoked my last two, and i quitted cold turkey.

The first week was a nightmare, i must say. I got me a stress ball, and i invented a little game with it: bounced it to one of my walls (i live in a sort of loft, so i have high walls) and counted how many times i could catch it without dropping it; that as an example on how you just need to do something else, even if is as stupid as that, to take your mind of the cigarrette. Had all that "time distortion" thingy and all the widthraw symptoms you can imagine, but week after week they were getting lighter, as i started to feel so much better and i broke the habits (the cig after a meal, for example). My health did a 180 degrees turn, both physically and mentally. My stress and anxiety levels dropped, my sleep improved, and my lungs were clearing and healing.

I had this webpage bookmarked for weeks, i helped me a lot: http://www.whyquit.com/ . I don´t agree with them in things like "one more cig and you are back on the habit" and such. Everyone is different, personally, i smoked again two times since then.. once i had like three cigs in a row and felt completely sick and had to throw up plus endure a horrible headache and another night that i tried to smoke one but i just couldnt swallow the puff, it was like i lost the ability to smoke and it didnt felt natural at all.

Well, this is my experience, in fact, writing this gives me a really nice cig craving.. but when i see how great i feel without smoking, is just a trick of the trade and nothing else. Punks never quit, but this time, i am glad i did : )
