Bowflex - Worht it or waste of money??

I'm considering getting one, but I am never one to believe all the hype and testimonials on websites...

Anyone have any experience, good or bad, with the bowflex???

GiantGnome 09-15-2004 05:22 PM

i havent tried it but im guessing if you got it and stuck to it then it would work

chri$tian 09-15-2004 05:23 PM

Go to the gym instead....

Vitasoy 09-15-2004 05:28 PM

I haven't really heard any really negative things about it. It's been out for years...

brizzad 09-15-2004 05:32 PM

they've been around since 1986, i think they wouldve gone out of business by now if it didnt work, and there's money back guarantees to back it up

hydro 09-15-2004 05:37 PM

i bought one about 3 years ago its good but over priced, but it is better than going to the gym and using all the other equipment, at least this way you don't get a nasty rash :helpme

Taboo 09-15-2004 05:42 PM

yes. get it. worth every penny.

had mine for years, and when i needed replacement backboards, etc, they shipped it next day. great customer service. they recently had a recall, but it wasn't the new models, but the older ones that have the LAT tower (like mine) but they actually sent us a kit to make it stronger, so not a true recall. they are even letting me trade mine back in for $1,500 credit towards a new one if I want. amazing customer service. much better than the gym because you can work out at 3 am if you want. make sure to go to DICKS or Sports Authority to test out the cheaper model and compare it to the crossbow. but make sure to order it online and get the top of the line model.

good luck.

Methodcash Rick 09-15-2004 05:43 PM

Thanks for the response guys...

Looks like nothing but good things to be said about it...

Off to order now.. :thumbsup

FreeHugeMovies 09-15-2004 06:02 PM

Dude, a TOTAL waste of money. Do NOT buy.

Goatse 09-15-2004 07:40 PM

If you want to look like the guy in the infommercial, buy some d-bol and some winny, then get a membership at a health club. :2 cents:

MikeVega 09-15-2004 07:46 PM

I don't have one but a freind does and he loves it...he's gone to gyms and is in good shape...the only thing is you have to use it...i can't work out in my house i have to go to the gym or i just don't do it

lynch1000s 09-15-2004 08:11 PM

If you want a home exercise machine, it works well. Personally I bought it a while back, rarely used it, a pain in the ass to try to return it, and it's not as good as free weights.

If you don't mind spending the time to go to the gym, the equipment there is much better.

Spunky 09-15-2004 08:20 PM

Shit for 3500 Canadian..I'll just get a membership

init 09-15-2004 08:20 PM

ive got one and love it, its got my :thumbsup

Downtime 09-15-2004 08:25 PM

It's a solid machine; i think it's the only one out there that actually lives up to its hype. If you are low on time and can't make it to the local gym, then pick one up. The only thing is if you slack off don't blame it on the machine; the bowflex works. You have to put in the time though, and I mean months, 4-5 days a week.

Rankings 09-15-2004 08:28 PM

i love them

for 3500$ canadian you can get 5-10 yearly memberships.

hottoddy 09-15-2004 08:56 PM

No personal experience, but I've heard good things from many owners. They won't make you huge, but will keep you toned and in shape.

I noticed Costco just got the Bowflex Elite for $899.

the Shemp 09-15-2004 09:03 PM

its really good for webmasters, you dont have to leave the house.. :thumbsup

VeriSexy 09-15-2004 09:08 PM

Yeah would be big waste of money if you order it and use it less than 10 times :1orglaugh I know lot's that spend big money on machines and they end up collecting dust

reynold 09-15-2004 10:03 PM

PenisFace 09-15-2004 10:06 PM

They say do it for 20 minutes a day three times a week... A friend and I were talking about the bowflex one day, and I asked, "What would happen if you worked out for an hour a day, three times a week?".

True story.

If you're looking to be like the guy(s) on the adverts, I would say wrong machine.

If you want to buy it and with little/no work tone up/look better, I say wrong attitude.

If you are strapped for time, don't want to go to the gym and will commit to it, I think it may be a wise investment choice.

Myself, I would rather go to a gym.

reynold 09-15-2004 10:48 PM

really interesting... i'd really check that out asap.

Shooter 09-15-2004 11:14 PM

Try one out before you buy...they're a lot different than other weight machines so they can be difficult to adjust to if you're used to more typical machines

You will never look like the guys in the commercials using machines or free weights.
You just need to use a turkey baster sized syringe full of veterenary steroids every day :thumbsup

liquidmoe 09-15-2004 11:21 PM

If your problem is that half the time you want to work out you find its too late and your local gym is closed or it just plain sucks so you have no motivation to go, get one. But really its all about your personal dedication. You can lose weight and tone up without any machines, just eat right, do some jogging for cardio, and the rest you can make up using your body as the weight, such as pull ups, push ups, sit ups, etc.

The guys in the commercials aren't buff enough to def be using "roids" imo.

CET 09-15-2004 11:41 PM

You have a free range of motion and constant tension. Go for it. :2 cents:

Yeh, Sears sells that one I believe. I dunno, I'd say the Crossbow is at least worth a test run considering what a Bowflex costs.

It can't be THAT difficult to make a comparable machine.

I'm almost his size and I'm natural. Give me another year and I'll be bigger then him and still natural. I doubt I'll naturall have more then a 17.5" arm though.

Warden 09-15-2004 11:52 PM

BTW, the Bowflex is the most successful infomercial ever produced and is still selling strong today. There must be something about it people like!

They sure not how to market it, it's in pretty much all sports channels here, and on many sports websites.

Seriously, about 1.5 years. I played around for a couple of years previous. I won't count high school football though (a whoppin 10 years ago!), the coach had no clue what weight training should involve and I made squat for gains.

CET 09-16-2004 12:05 AM

Almost forgot, I lift 4 days a week barring life complications.

wedouglas 09-16-2004 06:25 AM

free weights all the way.....if you use machines and then try free weights youll be sorely dissapointed in what you can do

Ben.Z 09-16-2004 06:48 AM

waste of money for sure... get yourself a bench and some free weights.:thumbsup

dennisthemenace 09-16-2004 07:16 AM

We have one and like it. Never a problem with breakage or anything (it's been years now).

But personal preference is actually free weights. Dumbells specifically.
