question for paysite owners
Do most of your signups come from customers that see your site for the first time? Let's call that "via affiliates". Or do they come from exposure over a longer period of time? We'll call that the "thought process" period.
I don't join paysites that I see for the first time. My educated guess is you recieve most of your signups after the surfer sees affiliates campaigns, and signs up directly at the site days, weeks or months later. The only paysite I've ever considered joining is ALSScan, and that was after hundreds of visits to the site and tons of thought and consideration. I'd imagine that given most of society's non-spontanious nature, perhaps as low as 30% of signups appear through affiliates, where the remaining 70% are seen as "type in" traffic as surfers mull the decision. Is this accurate? |
Good thread, Xenigo.
There's a rule in marketing called the Rule of Seven whereby it's generally noted that it takes 7 impressions (on the average) for a consumer to make a buy decision. |
Amazing lack of response to this subject.

I think it's more like a surfer see's your paysite, click it away and later on a other site they see the site again ( in a gallery or banner )
I dont believe many will even look at the join page at the first click to the site. Look at the ratios of TGP traffic. |

Business thread isn't the place on GFY :D

Anyone else? There's an aweful lot of paysite owners for there not to be an answer to this question.

I would say... a big percentage of surfers don't join on their first visit... That is why at Pineapplepink we have our cookies set to last 120 days for our affiliates... But affiliates don't seem to give a shit... They are sucked into the $35.00 or $40.00 sign ups. Then they come to gfy and piss and moan about being skimmed?
It's also important to have a memorable site name, ie: Like Lightspeed, Pineapplepink, Dorm Angels, branding is important.... Who is going to remember XXXhotwetpussy.com or xxxteeniegurls.com Just my 2 cents, now send some traffic... make some money! With The Girls of Pineapplepink! |
How does a webmaster know if someone has only been to his/her site once as compared to multiple times ?
*just because someone types in a URL, does not mean they have been there before. Allot of us have had articles posted in papers, local TV news and so on about us which require people to type in the URL. Here are a couple of examples done about my site http://216.158.136.80/news.asf (1998) http://www.lasvegasweekly.com/featur..._you_mine.html (1999) *Just because a surfer finds his way to a site does not mean it came from an affiliate link, so saying first time = affilaite link is not accurate. Actually knowing the info your asking about is almost impossible, for someone who thinks you only have to track IP address then have a program compare them, dial-up accounts and proxy servers make that impossible. |
DAMN Venus.

It seems that I get alot of people visiting my site from book marks. or just typing in the address by hand.

It's just a bit difficult to answer your question since there isn't really any way to know this. I can speculate for you all you want, but there is now positive way to know if a surfer that signs up today is or isn't seeing it for the first time.
I can tell you that there are people who impulse buy and people who don't, but that should have been obvious to you in the first place. |

Right, you can't know who has seen your stuff before, whether it be from an affiliate and then they download some more of your content from some P2P 2 months later and then come back it's about impossible to track that type of traffic, BUT a very large percentage of our sales come from affiliate sales vs Type in. |
