So can I buy an automatic gun or not?

???

Not sure how the new law works.

Are gun stores stocking the good stuff now or is just a legal thing and gun stores are shy about it???

I dont think thats quite how it works, but its midnight is the dealine..

I think the law makes it legal to MAKE them , but local laws will still supercede these laws in most areas.. ( meaning wal-mart wont have ak-47's tomorrow ) you might see local dealers bring out old stock, but i think it will be awhile before you can go purchase an ak-47 at any gun store

I'll have to check it out, never seen a gun store in chicago. Might have to hit some styx county to get an AK. Good for hunting game and ringin' in the new year.

automatic weapons made prior to 1986 are legal to own regardless

the assault weapons ban mainly does away with the stupid clinton clips and weapons like the ar-15 and mini 14

it really isnt a drastic change
these guns were legal to own had they been grandfathered anyway

hmm interesting. ive always wanted an automatic gun ill have to check out some of the hillbilly gun shows.

I'm guessing actually bringing it to the city might be illegal though :(

robfantasy 09-13-2004 10:49 AM

depends on your local laws

here it is perfectly legal for me to walk the streets with a holstered non concealed weapon just like any cop would

cant go near schools or in buildings where they prohibit firearms, but otherwise its ok

Wrong, there are plenty of assault weapons that are not automatic.

Hmmm far as I know FULL-auto are still illegal in the US to own or posess without a special license from the ATF. The ban banned new sales of certain types of assault type military type semi-auto waepons AND magazines capable of holding over 10 rounds. The bigger clips were still available bt couldt be imported or made. Now thats history. :thumbsup

Its always been legal to buy an automatic weapon, if you posessed a class III firearm license. thats the only legal way to own one.

The ban that expired today was on assault rifles, which werent the fully automatic ones to begin with. The ban doesnt apply to what you can buy, only to what the gun manufacturers can produce. You could always buy them at any time.

I think the better question is, WHY do you need such a gun?!
