Got all 4 Wisdom teeth removed and lived through it!

A looong time ago, I made some threads on GFY about my wisdom teeth but I procrastinated getting them removed for many many many years because I was sooooo scared. Well, I finally got them out on Friday and it wasn't bad at all! They got them all out in 30 minutes and I was under IV sedation so I don't remember a thing. The worst part was the IV in my arm which hurt the most, and the Vicodin on a semi-empty stomach with only a bit of liquids, it made me really nauseous/tired feeling. I alsmo must have had a good surgeoun because I stopped bleeding after only 3 hours! Other than than it was not bad at all!!

Oh man!

I've been stressing over mine for years too :(
Still have them all.

Do they pack it and stuff? That's one of the worst things I think of, all that ... stuff...coming out...
:repuke

I'm really scared about it! Congrats to you, though, I bet you feel a lot better now huh

No, they didn't pack it with anything; I think they omly do that if you develop a "dry socket" and they have to pack it with clove oil and other stuff. Mine was not bad at all, and I am a wuss, EVERYTHING hurts me. On the first day of surgery I was on Vicodin and felt NOTHING, on a pain scale of 1-10 it was a 1 probably. The worst part was first coming home and drooling blood out of my mouth and it spilled all over my white tank top and looked gruesome, but it was not painful. This was because I was trying to drink water with gauze stuck in my mouth. To be honest, it hurts more when I just bleach my teeth, it was not bad at all!!

I think the Vicodin the prescribed made me feel the worst, it was way too strong for me, 500 mg and I am extremely small in size and couldn't swallow mashed potatoes down the first night, so all I had was liquids and the drugs made me nauseous, but luckily I did not throw up!

Yeah, I did a lot of research beforehand and a lot of people said they bled for days which scared the bejesus out of me, my surgery ended at 11:45 in the morning and at around 3:30 that afternoon it was barely bleeding. I think the dentist stitched up all my holes, but I am not positive because I don't want to touch the wounds and dislodge any blood clots, but I guess mine was an easy surgery! I don't smoke so hope I don't get dry sockets...

Also, a good thing was that I barely had ANY swelling, so I didn't look like a chipmunk... Although my lips have a bit of dried blood clots on the side, I think they injected novocaine in my lips..

OzMan 09-12-2004 03:10 PM

Could I please have a before pic and an after pic once the swelling goes down? http://community.the-underdogs.org/s...happy/heee.gif

I had all 4 of mine out at one time and it wasn't too bad.

I had "twighlight sleep" where you aren't really asleep at all. It was kind of weird. First of all, I was aware of pain but I was sort of detached from it in a way that's kind of hard to explain. Like it hurt but it was ok it hurt. Also, my sense of time was all screwed up. When they finished the fourth one I thought they had just finished the first.

No big trauma though.

tical 09-12-2004 04:26 PM

hah, ur breath is gonna smell so bad for the next few weeks

DWB 09-12-2004 05:49 PM

I'm not even going to get into my horror story of when I had all 4 pulled at once. Lets just say that if I had to do it again, I would rather they just go ahead and kill me.

I ended up getting FOUR dry sockets and was on serious pain pills, off work and out of it for TWO WEEKS!!!! I was a total mess.

With that said, my old girlfriend had the same thing done and was back to work in 3 days with ZERO problems. Just a little discomfort was all she had. The bitch.

I feel for anyone getting all 4 pulled because if your a pussy like me or have problems afterwards, life becomes a living hell. But you get good drugs to help ease the pain. :Graucho

warlock5 09-12-2004 05:51 PM

Hmm, I had two removed and I was awake the whole time. Nothing better than hearing and feeling the knife scraping your bones :Graucho

Its not that bad with the drugs they give you.. If its too much cut the dosage in half and you'll be fine.

I had a friend who got his pulled. He went to work right away, and just about passed out from blood loss. Hint: lay the fuck down for a day or two and don't do shit.

BrainDead 09-12-2004 05:52 PM

why do you have to take them out?

pornguy 09-12-2004 05:54 PM

You beld for 3 hours??

Damn.

I was lucky then, as I did not bleed at all after mine were removed.

But they now tell me that they want to dig a canal in my mouth for some reason or another. and I am NOT happy.

I don't have any swelling at all, but I have some gross brown crusty stuff on the left side of my lip where they injected something in my lips and it's a bit disgusting and dried up.... I hope it goes away soon and is not infected... I don't want to go anywhere because of my lip...

I tried to open my mouth a bit and looked inside and it was gross, but from what I can tell I think they stitched all the holes, so there's not much chance of me getting "dry socket" if I don't smoke right?

BrainDead, i took them out because one of the wisdom teeth had a bone cyst, and the surgeon said it could eat away bone and even break my jaw, plus it was growing in sideways and messing the tooth before that. All of them were growing in sideways... They also have to check the cyst to make sure there's no cancer (routine procedure)

I've been extra extra careful not to drink out of a straw, sucking anything or rinsing too hard, so hopefull no dry sockets for me.
I felt much better after eating "soft" solid foods like thin slices of ham and some neptune salad.. Those liquid drinks like Ensure were making me sick too... much better after I had some real food... I just chew with my front teeth though..

P-K 09-12-2004 06:10 PM

lol you guys are pussies, you think wisdom teeth is bad?

Try having 10+ shots of novacaine going into your area right under your balls without any anesthesia to remove a big ball of puss with a sharp scalpel to rip it open feeling all the pain and bleeding all over the sheets and stitches goin right in ur assneck and then not being able to shit for days and coming in to the doctor to have them examine it to take stiches out and havin to sit in a hot water every night for the next 6 months

BlackCrayon 09-12-2004 06:21 PM

i've been putting off getting mine pulled too, i didn't take good care of them and now they bleed for no reason. the thing i wonder is...how do they keep you from choking on the blood when you are unconscious? i will get it done soon tho, i have to.

Elli 09-12-2004 06:27 PM

I'm so glad you made it out alive! :) I have to get mine taken out, too. A couple weeks ago my dentist said "do it before you turn 30 and you should be fine" then he glared at me. I'm 28!

There isn't that much blood, it bleeds like a split lip for a very short time * they suction that out as they pull , then novocaine numbse the veins and thats it..

Don't sweat it. I had all 4 removed and was playing sports later than day..

No i.v. no ether or anything just novocaine and a joint after ( they tell you not too though )

The pain was very minimal..

SmokeyTheBear 09-12-2004 06:30 PM

btw dont worry too much about the dry sockey warning. I smoked a bunch after mine never had a problem.. Use mouth wash lots..

reynold 09-12-2004 06:39 PM

blleding for 3 hours! hope it's healing good!

BrainDead 09-12-2004 07:08 PM
