Ivan did some nasty damage in Jamaica, and at LEAST 5 people were killed.

Hurricane Ivan smashes homes, floods Jamaica; death toll rises to 50 in Caribbean
Hurricane Ivan's monstrous waves and torrential rains smashed homes, uprooted trees and killed at least five people in Jamaica on Saturday, but a last-minute ``wobble'' spares the island the full force of the storm's 155-mph fury.

Prospects are looking better for South Florida, though

Ivan shift 'improved our odds'
While Hurricane Ivan lashed Jamaica on Saturday, prospects for South Florida have brightened considerably as the powerful system now is forecast to remain about 150 miles west of the Gulf Coast -- far enough away that this region might escape seeing even tropical storm conditions, forecasters said.
I've got my fingers crossed for all of you guys in Ivan's path... Best of luck to you!

Watched the weather and it looks like it will go through the Gulf and not bang through the middle of Florida.

Yeah, I'm hoping and praying we escape this one's wrath....but I still think I may evacuate b/c I've learned this month in particular that hurricanes are unpredictable mother-fuckers.
