My youngest sister totalled her car

...trying to miss an animal. People...do not...do not...veer trying to avoid hitting an animal...unless you want to put your life in danger over that of the animal.

block 09-10-2004 11:09 PM

Doh :(... Yeah I know some people that rolled their car trying to avoid a deer.... Happens a lot. Better of just to hit them (unless its a moose) and have insurance fix your vehicle.

zzgundamnzz 09-10-2004 11:10 PM

Its better to just run the animal over. Only time I'd swerve the car is if it was one of my own animals.

baddog 09-10-2004 11:11 PM

I have lost friends and had some seriously injured trying to miss a fucking squirrel

Yep I never really get that man. I think it's more of just an instinct reaction or something. I nailed a possum one night doing like 120 though and I thought I was a goner.

it worries me so much when my GF veers t avoid a bird flying towards her. it's an automatic reaction and no matter how much i give her shit for it she'll always veer. Hard to force yourself to not follow instinct.

Thomas N 09-10-2004 11:41 PM

Ok let me try and get this straight. You are really Pathfinder, everyone knows that. You are pretending to be your own son. That being the case, this would most likely mean it was actually your daughter in the accident and not sister, correct?

BitterPen 09-10-2004 11:48 PM

That sucks. I hope she is ok. I will only swerve if there is noone coming. I've hit birds and squirrels but never anything big.

:winkwink:

strats 09-10-2004 11:56 PM

it sucks when you go to swerve but the squirrel stops dead in its tracks right under your car. I think someone had a personal daily thing with that squirrel then i come along and run it over ! what an asshole

StacyCat 09-11-2004 01:12 AM

It also looks a lot better on your insurance if you collide with an animal than a tree.

If you hit an animal, it counts as a comprehensive claim, that you had no chance of avoiding it (kinda like rocks hitting windshields, and hail damage to your car)

Swerving and hitting a tree, you could have avoided it, and its a collision claim, which counts against you, and your rates go up.

hvidlogspusher 09-11-2004 01:13 AM

that depends how big the animal is...

Vitasoy 09-11-2004 01:24 AM

I'll keep that in mind. I'm going head on if I see a furry animal.

Manowar 09-11-2004 04:08 AM

just inertial drift around it

robfantasy 09-11-2004 04:16 AM

that sucks i hope she is ok

Plan9 09-11-2004 04:21 AM

Yep, as my uncle tells me every time he used to get drunk and I'd have to drive him home, in Pennsylvania - most of the deaths on the road where he lives are from people that swerve to avoid deer.

erehwon 09-11-2004 04:50 AM

In Wisconsin its a consolation prize that after broadsiding a deer, just drive it to the sheriff's office and you can keep it.

Somehow venison steaks out of season doesn't justify $10K worth of damage unless we're talking a real 10 point buck. :1orglaugh

bringer 09-11-2004 04:53 AM

i usually swerve trying to hit the animal

Yeah, we have moose around here who like to go for a stroll. If you don't swerve, the collision could very well kill you.

Also, animals should learn not to run in front of female drivers. It just makes a bad situation even worse.

tranza 09-12-2004 01:01 PM

I just hope everything is fine with her...

pure energy 09-12-2004 07:41 PM

To hell with the animals if my life is in danger!

xxxoutsourcing 09-12-2004 07:42 PM

This thread is useless with out pics.

reynold 09-12-2004 07:45 PM

well, mind over matter. if the animal crossing is a cow...well, i'll think i'll have to hit it harder...and take it home for dinner.

Honeyslut 09-15-2004 11:04 PM

A guy slammed on his brakes once to avoid a dog and my husband 's van hit him. It ended up being 50/50 for fault and both parties insurance paid their own claim cause the guy was not suppose to slam on the brakes of an animal.

BrainDead 09-15-2004 11:07 PM

omg! i hope she's okay!
