Bush likely to skip out on presidential debate where he could be asked questions

Although the presidential debates dates have been set for a while, Bush's team says he wouldn't actually be dropping out of the debate scheduled for Washington University in St. Louis because they never agreed to the debates in the first place.

They claim the reason is that the debate is a "town hall" type meeting and they are afraid the Gallup Organization who is to choose the audience members to ask questions will pull a trick on them by slipping partisan voters in place of undecided voters. They apparently don't want want to answer questions from real people, but as it stands now they are OK with the other 2 debates where moderators will ask questions in pre-determined topics.

If I were a president or this president?

If I were a president I would want the good PR of being seen on TV answering questions from the people who might be voting for me.

If I were this president I'd get out of as many of them as I could.:glugglug

Debate ????

Ever saw Bush do a debate ??? I haven't...

He can only play concentration:

Match the answer with question, and he needs to see and know both of them way before...

Monkeys can do that also...

If I were this President I definitely would not want to debate with unprepeared questions.

The consequences of someone asking an embarassing or difficult to answer question could be bad.

They could ask questions I do not have the answer for.

Like what is 7 multilpied by 7 or even 8. Best to skip any risk.

Clinton was only in two debates against Dole when he was president. What difference is this?
There is none.

No, it's quite different. Clinton / Dole included the town hall debate.

i believe last week i saw kerry say that bush was going to be a tough person to debate and that he hadnt lost one yet.

mardigras 09-10-2004 06:44 AM

Bush is great at rattling off pre-rehearsed statements/speeches but he falls apart when he needs to "think on his feet".

He didn't kick gore's ass...he just did much better than ppl thought he would. Hence you might have that perception.

W can be an effective speaker when he doesn't get overly confused.

However, Kerry is a trained lawyer...3 years as a prosecutor at that and was in Political Union at Yale (which is a kind of debate society).

But these are "real" debates, they aremorelike speeches, so ppl will judge on perception alone, not the substance of answers.

samsam 09-10-2004 06:48 AM

If I were this president, id pull a *MAJOR* sicky.

On the other hand, if I were just a regular viewer watching the televised debates, I think it would be funny to see him try.

TheLegacy 09-10-2004 06:51 AM

only reason why bush is a masterdebator is that he faces questions that he already has written answers for!!

put him in a town meeting with real people and hes lost because no one is talking into his ear piece or wrote down exactly what to say so that he doesnt come off as a complete moron.

You're a dumbass if you think both sides don't have stock answers prepared and memorized for every question anyone would ask.

No because he might have to try to explain tribal sovereignty again or explain how OB-GYNs are having a tough time practicing their love with women.
Unless someone is pulling his strings, this guy can't even take a dump by himself. And people are still sold on him.
Fuckin' amazing.

There is a difference between being prepared for all type of questions ( requires intelligence ) and knowing of the questions ahead of time, or packing the assembly with " friends" that don't ask questions but praise you for your worship of Lord...

Don't have to put links for that, do I ???

And just remenber one question period in the Rose Garden where he sorta said:

" Well, if I would of knowed you were to ask difficult answers , I would have asked to see the questions first"....

Now, I hope America will put this fucktard back in the office, invade Iran , Korea and Syria.... Like the Romans, this will be the fall of your short lived Empire...:)

Danny_C 09-10-2004 07:07 AM

I agree with The Truth Hurts... I think. Both sides are weak, and neither wants to take a chance of getting questions that don't have canned responses. I'm sure even town hall questions will be screened.

However, Bush is definitely an extreme case here. Remember when a reporter asked a question, and instead of answering, he said, "Uhh... I don't think we agreed to that question," or something along those lines... and he didn't answer it. It was a valid question, but he won't do press conferences unless he knows the questions in advance and his advisors can prepare answers.

No, the reason he appears to fall apart is that he has to think and re-think about what he is saying because one slip and the press will make a big fucking deal out of it.

Why are these threads still posted? Everyone has already made up their minds already about these candidates. Is this somehow going to convince anyone that they don't both fucking suck?
