while i don't have a problem with the kids being there, i would have a problem with the kids being exposed to the drugs and sex that are commonplace there

drugs and sex do not happen constantly out in the open, they are in enclosed places....i would not mind the kids there as long as they were kept away from those places

That is me and my Cousin's child. Burning Man is a city. 35,000 people.
And just as in any city, there are places unfit for children.

Hell, Disneyland is dangerous for an unsupervised child.

And there are places at Burning Man that are wonderful for a supervised child. I would definitely birng my kids to Burning Man. But it would be a very different experience, obviously.

That little girl/boy standing there in the middle of all that ? Exposed to all the nudity ... exposed to whatever else goes on there ... but ofcourse .. it is fit for children right?

Dude. You can shelter your children from nudity if you want. That is NOT one of the things I think my children will need protection from.

The picture was of a day-time dance party in the desert. TONS of smiles. It was like the best picnic ever. People were dancing. Some were naked. My children will definitely be allowed to be around non-sexual nudity.

I will never understand that life style. Simply amazing the things people think....but it takes all kinds of people to make up this crazy place we call earth

for what it's worth...

I got into a huge fight with my aunt once when she let my cousin (13 years old) come and stay with us for a couple of weeks a few summers ago.

She came down for the day and then as she was leaving she spit out some rules.

One of which was not to let him watch movies with nudity. I jokingly said I hid all the porn (she didn't laugh). So I said, "ok, what about Braveheart" It just came out on DVD not to long before then, and the Mrs. and myself enjoy watching it.

She said "sure."

I said, "ok, but it's really graphic with violence."
She didn't seem to bebothered by that at all. Se said it was ok for him to see violence because he knows it's not real.

I then reminded her that when Mel Gibson and his wife get married in that movie there is a brief topless shot of the female actress. "THEN, NO! He can't watch it!" she said.

I said, "but it's ok right... it's not real"

Needless to say she was pretty pissed.

That love scene is a beautiful thing. If violence teaches boys to be violent, then a beautiful love making scene (AS IN BRAVEHEART) can show them how to be loving. RIGHT?!?!?

Teach your kids nudity is dirty, and they'll turn into whores! OR they'll get all fucked up when they are older when it comes to sex.

My sister took both her kids this year. She chose not to take them when they were younger, but she took them at 12 and 13 yrs old. It's a whole different experience for her with her kids. They play laser tag and do artsy fartsy stuff with the kids and play chasing games and scavenger hunts, etc. She doesn't work in the Temple of Atonement when the kids are along. :)

I think that it's fine for kids to see what they see at Burning Man or whatever as long as the parents are available to answer questions and to put what they see into the proper context.

I was at HempFest a few weeks ago in Seattle and there were tons of people pushing strollers around all the pot smokers. Is that a problem for you? Everyone had clothes on. Does that make it different?

A lot of people believe that keeping your kids sheltered from things like nudity and drugs is what turns them into drugged out sluts when they turn 18. :)

hey man, some people will just never understand the world that we know. i try to educate them, but eventually, i just move on. bet the same thing happened at woodstock and will happen at the hippie festival in 2080 too. i'm takin my kids to places like burning man too. just like you said, everyplace in life has areas not meant for children. thats what parents are for tomake sure the children dont go into areas where they shouldnt go. theres a nudey bar on the corner of the street i live on. should i move now? and should i cancel the discovery channel because the kids mightsee some boobies on the natives in the amazon rain forest special.

Here is the place among my friends that I have to admit... I had no idea what a hugulet was. I need some of those vibrating pink furry things!

Hal it appears you had a real blast. Burning Man is an event , an adventure that is on my 'To Do" list.

And Pink IS your signature color

:thumbsup

:) Thanks!
The hugulets didn't exist...so I had to invent them. :)

It certainly makes for a nice opening line. "Would you care for a vibrating naughty hug?"
