Since Win XP SP2 disables all consoles - when are sponsors going to lower payouts?

XP Service Pack 2 blocks all popups and between current users and new computer users, most people won't get popups anymore.

So if a program pays $35 and $25 CF, and if the number of surfers who get popups goes down by 75%, then what happens to payouts?

Do programs detect whether a surfer gets a console, and pays the correct payout. That's probably the best idea.

What ever you do Lensman, people will follow:2 cents:

Someone already suggested (to webmasters) to send googlebar and sp2 traqffic to console and only the rest to console-free. I guess it would be wise for sponsors to check surfers for sp2 and googlebar

Easton 09-09-2004 06:06 PM

interesting question... i think many will only have one flat (lower) payout soon... if they manage to pop an exit somehow, it will prolly be for the credit of the sponsor and not the affiliate

Giorgio_Xo 09-09-2004 06:07 PM

Nasty Dollars still pays $35 no console.

SmokeyTheBear 09-09-2004 06:07 PM

I already have a popup built for sp2 :)

Want some details have your guys contact me..

pimplink 09-09-2004 06:07 PM

It would be SMART for sponsors to MAKE the decision for themselves rather than let the MARKET (ie., their webmasters) make the decision for them.

The pay as you click model is also a good alternative.

Spunky 09-09-2004 06:08 PM

More and more people are going with sp2 and pop up blockers.Probably lower payouts are inevitable ,that and perhaps pop ups may be a thing of the past

http 09-09-2004 06:12 PM

my fear is that a new can of traffic leaks and excessive cross sells will be opened to replace the dying console model.

maybe we'll have different payouts for with/without traffic leaks

Giorgio_Xo 09-09-2004 06:14 PM

My suggestions:

1. Produce the best possible content.
2. Cross sell into other programs you own, e.g. own two separate programs.
3. Keep mailing.
4. Own your own TGPs/MGPs network.
5. Limit trial time access.
6. Use a merchant account instead of third party billers to reduce costs.
7. Along with several other large programs form your own bank so adult can deal directly with VISA and reduce costs.

pimplink 09-09-2004 06:18 PM

Maybe the answer to question lies in HOW MUCH of a PPS program's income comes from consoles?

Maybe prorate it?

BluMedia 09-09-2004 06:22 PM

We have never had more than one exit console and have never had any entry consoles so we won't be affected my the new update at all.

Mark

SmokeyTheBear 09-09-2004 06:22 PM

Dont throw in your chips just yet. :)

There are ways around sp2...

Quite a few infact..

Flash Overlays
Applets
and of course the good old regular console.

JoeA 09-09-2004 06:23 PM

Be thankful that you're not one in ten who the service pack2 creates the blue screen of death... I was unlucky and had to buy a new hd as I got fucked :(

Microsft even have a page now telling customers what servicepack2 can do to programmes... It stops Pinnaacle Studio 9 working properly as an example..

If anyone has sense they won't download it till the bugs are fixed

Not directly , but maybe indirectly..

If your affilates are using you on a popup page, then you are affected , or if other sponsors use you as a sponsor in their own popups...

The messages are still very vague for the average internet user..

I had this girl doing some reviewing for me the other day ( tgp reviews ) and i came back and she was all upset the computer was crashed and filled with spyware, i had only been gone for like 20 minutes.. so im like wtf did you do..

She said , i was on this one gallery and it said CLICK HERE , then all these other boces kept popping up telling me to ckick here and click there then the computer rebooted a few times lol.. poor girl,, poor computer ... ( it will never forgive me )

SmokeyTheBear 09-09-2004 06:30 PM

i think that was a yes..

I hope nasty things do not begin to occur to keep the payouts stable.

I know of at least one program that has made some significant changes, in both paysite structure and payouts, to be able to continue to evolve in the changing dynamics of this environment?very bold step

The money is in retention. We'll also pay 35 dollars with no console if we are getting enough joins.

BlueQuartz 09-09-2004 07:48 PM

surely some smart guy will develop a way to pop consoles despite sp2 and popup blockers in general

afterall isnt it just a constant evolution of us vs them :)

No console for me. Are you sure you don't have spyware?

hydro 09-09-2004 08:02 PM

most sponsor's programmer's will be able to get around sp2 popup blocking.

Brujah 09-09-2004 08:05 PM

I think this is why Alien posted his thread about SP2, someone else has a product they sell that bypasses it apparently.

This is precisely what I spoke to my gf and partner about yesterday evening :)
I said you may as well send to the console options before SP2 is widespread because sponsors wont be offering it before too long.

Of course, tricky people could always have been detecting if a surfer had java enabled, then only sending people to console links if java was off. Also, sponsors could be checking if java was off and paying console free rates automagically too, lol.

At any rate, handwriting on the wall no question. Need to set a variable if a console was able to be viewed or not.

Doubt it, a few will get it and the rest will follow.
They maybe skilled, but not in those areas.

Don't forget opening a window directly from the DRM law window if you're using that on your video trailers ;)

Tom_PMs 09-09-2004 08:20 PM

What about window.showModalDialog?

Yes but they don't pay you for signups that cancel or credit within 4 hours of joining.
I've heard from some paysite owners that at least HALF of all new joins cancel before they ever see the members area.....so using that math you're getting $17.50 per signup.

:2 cents:

Well, but they are the biggest sponsor I think. So they cannot convert 2 times worse than other sponsors. If that was the case, they wouldn't be so big....

Just my :2 cents:

vospet 10-12-2004 12:29 PM

will have to wait and see.

3: Maximised For Pop Revenue or MFPR

Once thats established and coined it will be all the rage.:glugglug
