Is there a point to making a movie paysite 56k friendly?

What does everyone here do with movie paysites? I mean right now i have someone compressing videos for me for 56k as an extra option next to the normal compression for broadband. But these movies cant be made smaller than 10 megs or there will be no quality left. But then even 10 megs would be horrible to download on 56k right?

I could not provide any 56k files but what if a 56k surfer signs up? He wont be able to download 50 meg files at all.

Now i wonder how other people do this. I never see a movie paysite saying 56k surfers shouldnt sign up so i assume they all have highly compressed videos? But once again, even 10 megs is too much for 56k.

I need solutions.

You can split them up in 1-2MB chunks and auto thumbnail them. Use a low bitrate and good codec. With WMV9 you can have some great results.
Don't now which software we used for that, they always gave me the movies and thumbs ready for upload.

I'm using dialup now! Since I moved place, a few weeks back, the phone company haven't set up my adsl yet.

I haven't bothered downloading anything, it's hell!

Got a point there.

Would another solution be redirecting the 56k surfer as soon hits the tour page to a 56k friendly site?

I read recently that about 20% of Americans are on Dialup.

I think the 56k option next to the broadband download as mentioned earlier is a good idea. Atleast broadband may choose this option if the urge/time is of importance :)

Your keyboard appears broken.

the 56k'ers can look at the pictures that I give them. Nobody who is on 56k really needs to be looking at movies anyway. My movies average 100mb's each.

alexg 09-09-2004 06:10 AM

the internet is not 56k friendly

Dirty F 09-09-2004 11:07 AM

Bump

I want some answers from big movie site owners.

Manowar 09-09-2004 11:19 AM
