never opted in to a single thing. My ISP sold the addy to a local company that in turn had rogue employees selling to big spammer who in turn use teh lists then sell them.

I recently turned off my custom antispam/filter software just to "see"... the email catch all box was getting 200 an hour. I just love people that just say "press the delete key".

What's "interesting" is that all our other email addresses get a "reasonable" amount of spam. But this particular box was the one that was used to signup for sponsor programs, for content access etc.

What I find hilarious though is that the spammers think we're actually going to buy memberships/products that we also promote and can get for free. :1orglaugh

Now, I use custom email addresses for each sponsor.

I guarentee 85%+ accept LEGIT mail traffic...some non-legit but I will not get into that.

I don't understand how can some people receive so much spam as they claim...
The key to success in not receiving spam is not to put your email anywhere on the web and rather have a secondary email used for registration in boards and other non-trusted sources. I'm using my regular email address for about 6 years now and before I installed spamassasin on the server about half a year ago, I was receiving less than one spam every other day to that address. Now when the spamassasin is active, it's less than one per week. And I use that email address regularly, from the time I created that email address (and registered the domain), I'm sending 5-30 emails every day.
With this in my mind, I really don't know how can anyone receive 100's or even 1000's of spam email every day. Actually, the only way I can imagine is well-known domains like yahoo or hotmail (or domains of big corporations) where spammers simply guess the email address. No other way to get such shitloads of spam...

my university sold university our address to alot of bulk mailers.. pisses me off
