I would imagine server load would have a lot to do with it. Im not a big fan of waiting every 30 minutes or more for the servers to "sync" or whatever they like to call it. But other then using a sponsor with real time stats what can you do.Living in Virtual Reality

I can explain why some, including us, have a short delay on traffic stats:
Because some of you guys refresh your stats constantly!
That would frequently cause the server to bog down, and new traffic coming in was adversely affected. Webmasters refreshing stats = more load on the server = slower response time for potential buyers = less sales
So the solution is to use seperate servers just for webmaster stats, and other servers dedicated to accepting incoming traffic. Faster response times = more sales
Which would you rather have, more sales or instant stats?
