WTF is with these people leaving their boats in the water?
Am I missing something here? You know for days a hurricane is coming, why in the fuck do all these people leave their boat docked?

They had a live report on CNN last night, doing a normal report then they noticed a 3.5 million dollar yacht had broken free of its mooring. CNN nailed it live! With only one engine, no ballast and the waves pounding the boat, they got it close to a piling, threw a rope over it, and it promptly pulled the piling right out of the water. Came back, managed to tie it down, even after all anchors had ripped right of the sea.
The guy had steel balls and really knew what he was doing. |

This question from someone who obviouslyy has no idea what it takes to get even a relatively small sail boat out of the water...you see they have this thing that protrudes from the bottom called a keel and its often at least half the length of the boat...starting to get the picture?

Many folks can't drop everything to sail them to safety, they are at the mercy of their tiedowns.:(

Yeah getting your boat into dry dock is costly and take lots of time, that time is better spent getting your house secure, vehicle fueled and getting out of town if you are going to leave. If the boat is in the water it will probably take less damage than getting hit by trees and stuff while sitting in the racks.
