closest places to hike from Vancouver

for those living there, what is the closest place to go hiking, if you are staying downtown?

the more difficult the hike, the better. i'm not very familar with the mountains closest to Vancouver.

Thanks :)

Grouse Grind

Head up to the base of the tram. Ask inside where the trail starts as I forget. If you can make it up in under an hour, I owe you a beer if we ever meet. If you take more than an hour, I'll still buy you a beer because webmasters, and IT people, usually die half way up. :p

What you doing up so early anyways? This weather is shit. I'm going back to bed.

i hiked Whistler mountain (1585 meters vertical rise) every day this summer, so i'm sure i could handle it ;) only thing is my ankle is broken, so i'm not hiking anything at the moment. info was for a friend who is staying in Vancouver for a couple of days before heading up here for a couple more.

thanks much :glugglug

and a beer sounds good.

I second this, the grind is great, although if you're in decent shape you should be able to do it in an hour easily.

There are tons of other trails around the north shore, especially up on Cypress or Seymour, but the grind is probably the quickest to get to, and most popular, plus it has a pub on top :glugglug

Yeah if you go up a bit there's the Squamish Chief and umm Black Tusk is around there somewhere. My mother's done those, since she's the hiking buff of the family. I like going up the valley to Golden Ears. :)
