Hurricane Frances is a Lightweight

The biggest evacuation in the history of the State of Florida. Millions of people displaced temporarily. Billions of lost business from stores being closed when they really could have stayed open. Billions in lost productivity on the corporate level. I'd bet well over a billion spent by South Florida residents just preparing and stocking up for this supposed monster of a storm.

And what do we get from this tough guy named Frances? A total dud.

What a joke and complete waste of time this storm has become.

It's now expected to only have 70-90mph winds when it hits landfall near Ft. Pierce tomorrow night. Still a force to contend with but nothing like they told us.

Once again the government succeeds in freaking out the people, i.e. the sheep who all fled en masse to who knows where.

Baaaahhhh

No, because the more this shit happens, the less people will believe it when a truly grand hurricane does in fact come.

This has become a regular occurence now where they go overboard on predictions that don't happen.

It's the 9/11 mentality now in every respect from the government.

WiredGuy 09-04-2004 01:07 AM

Glad to hear it won't be as big as once anticipated.

I understand what you saying, but in many respects you cannot argue/predict nature.

So you think there is no chance it could rev up one last time before it hits?

Well thank gawd! That's actually GOOD NEWS! :)

NoCarrier 09-04-2004 01:10 AM

Who's the Governor of Florida again?

KRL 09-04-2004 01:11 AM

We had everyone in our offices take everything including the computers, files, pictures, etc. (all except the furniture) out and relocate it to secure locations. That was a shitload of work and hassle and now we have to move everything all back again.

I am in Ft Lauderdale right now and all i can say is that Frances was huge and coming at us at 17mph a couple days ago... they did the right thing... luckily the storm weakened, it would have been a totally different story if it picked up steam as it came towards us.

All the stores were closed in this area today (friday). Now if everything continues to stay closed tomorrow and Sunday then it'd be getting ridiculous.

KRL 09-04-2004 02:30 AM

I bet ya more people are going to get flooded out in the midwest.

but if it would have kept going the way it was then lives would have been lost. even with the evacuation i'd be happy it got downgraded

mary34d 09-04-2004 05:41 AM

No shit....my dog is running around in the backyard right now even.....

That's why I didn't even put up shutters or leave my house

robfantasy 09-04-2004 05:45 AM

someone gimme updates on hurricane joe frances

wyldblyss 09-04-2004 06:39 AM

The problem is these storms/hurricanes don't follow rules and don't post thier itinerary for weather specialist. All forecasters can do is make thier very best guess. So if they waited until they were 100% positive, it would already be there, too late to get everyone out. I can't see a better option than what they are doing now until they are better able to figure out the paths of the storms.

robfantasy 09-04-2004 06:41 AM

of course.. the best course of action is to make sure everyone is safe and after the fact say it was a waste, better than after the fact saying we should have been safer...

thats why u buy insurance
