Good morning GFY. Got a good nights sleep, house still in one piece and ready to go to work. Looks like this storm is going to make us wait another day.

There is really no where to go.. I have a lot of family in Melbourne area and Deland area.. My aunt left Melbourne yesterday to go to Tenn.. She was turned around in Orlando because there is a shortage on gas and the hotel rooms are booked full everywhere in the lower US because of this storm.

I know quite a few people in the Melbourne area that are staying simply because in reality their is no where to go to get out of it's path. This storm is going to affect the entire state and they really still don't know exactly where it will hit land.

Never said I was trying to show "guts". I have been through these before and so has my house. Hell, when I was a kid (many years ago) I remember living in tornado alley and running outside in the middle of the night with a pan over my head to protect from the hail and get to the shelter. In Florida there are no shelters or basements. Because when you dig down more then 8 feet you hit water. I am not trying to prove anything my staying and protecting what is mine and I have no problem looking at the face of danger either (neither does my wife).

Jeff aka NIGHTfall 09-03-2004 08:49 AM

we are stayin here too.... took all day yesterday (9am-8:30pm) and from 8am-10:30am today to board up the house... and i think my new neighbor is a fucking retard... while everyone is boardin their shit up.. you know what he fucking puts up.... a flag
nothing else but a fucking flag.... :1orglaugh i should take pics before the storm blows it away:1orglaugh

Best of luck on the gas situation. I see the weather channel is live here in Palm Bay. There are people stranded all over running out of gas. Good luck, where you heading?

Bama 09-03-2004 08:56 AM

Stupid people deserve to die - graveyard is full of people who said

"That didn't happen last time"
"I never thought it would happen to me"
"Watch this"
"Don't worry, I've done this before"
"It won't attack if......."
"It's not loaded"

Keep tempting fate.. she's a vengeful bitch with a long memory!

Peaches 09-03-2004 08:57 AM

I would probably stay unless I had kids. Where I am now there's no chance of looting (heck, I leave my doors unlocked and the keys and my wallet in my unlocked car) but in FL, that would be my main fear. In addition to possibly not being allowed back to my home after the storm.

Hard to call, really........just glad I'm not in that position and sending good thoughts to those of you that are!!

I'm heading to my dads house which is in Deland not far away.. I'd rather stay here because he has big ass oak trees around their house. However the last hurricane my truck was crashed so it's still in the body shop getting repaired. So I'm at their mercy being I'm borring their truck.

you don't seem to understand a lot of people can't leave because the gas stations have run out of gas same as the ATM money machines.. they are out of money. On top of this Hotels are booked full in all the SE states around FL..

They are turning people around and telling them to go home. So unless you allreadfy have a place to go it's useless to leave..

fatbaby 09-03-2004 09:03 AM

My folks left Vero yesterday..... it was slow going, but they had no trouble with gas, just slow highway speeds ( averaged 20 MPH ) so it took em 10 hours to get north of FLorida... they headed to NC....

HAHA who is stupid? Wrong word. Fate is fate and will happen no matter what. If it is my "fate" to die today, tomorrow then I will die whether I am at home or on the run from a storm that they still do not have a true projected path.

1 : the principle or determining cause or will by which things in general are believed to come to be as they are or events to happen as they do : DESTINY
2 a : an inevitable and often adverse outcome, condition, or end b : DISASTER; especially : DEATH
3 a : final outcome b : the expected result of normal development <prospective fate of embryonic cells>
4 plural, capitalized : the three goddesses who determine the course of human life in classical mythology
synonyms FATE, DESTINY, LOT, PORTION, DOOM mean a predetermined state or end. FATE implies an inevitable and usually an adverse outcome <the fate of the submarine is unknown>. DESTINY implies something foreordained and often suggests a great or noble course or end <the country's destiny to be a model of liberty to the world>. LOT and PORTION imply a distribution by fate or destiny, LOT suggesting blind chance <it was her lot to die childless>, PORTION implying the apportioning of good and evil <remorse was his daily portion>. DOOM distinctly implies a grim or calamitous fate <if the rebellion fails, his doom is certain>.

Best of luck on the trip to Deland Crockett. :thumbsup

Whet Prod 09-04-2004 06:35 AM

Good morning GFY!
Well we have a few strong (45 mph) wind gusts associated with the outer bands of Frances this morning. Other then that all is well. Damn, if I didn't catch a cold on top of all this. Making some chicken soup for dinner. Not really any notable news yet.
I will check in later.

Whet Prod 09-04-2004 02:17 PM

5:00 Melbourne Florida Frances update. I have to laugh listening to the news and the way they are grasping at straws trying to find something damaging in this storm. I am very happy that it has turned out this way, but the media sure can try to over do things. One of the local reporters just walked out in the middle of the road on the causeway here with her wind gauge. The guy interviewing her says it must be getting to hurricane strength wind now. She looks at the gauge and reports that the wind is gusting to 29 mph. Just to give you an idea the current conditions here. I have a few pics.
http://www.whetproductions.com/images/palms.jpg
Taken from my porch this shows the strongest gust so far.
http://www.whetproductions.com/images/francesdr.jpg
Some more palms showing a little more wind force.

http://www.whetproductions.com/images/treedown.jpg
A neigbors tree uprooted.
Now the report is that the storm has stalled.
