Coffee >> Filtered water vs. tap

I know a lot of you drink coffee, however my question is what tastes better? Filtered water or tap water? Or does it make a difference?

I use filtered water at home, the coffee taste is crips and clean. At work we use tap water. It tastes almost the same but I can't tell exactly if the water is the cause since we use a different brand of coffee at work (Starbucks).

Any thoughts on this?

filtered water

Cold filtered is best. This depends alot on your water though, if the tap water tastes fine when you drink it, odds are it will taste fine in coffee.
Do however keep the pot very clean and get coffee into a caraffe within 15 minutes, and never reheat the stuff.

In a hard water area I personally prefer tap water but at the office we use avien water.

I dont know, I only drink the finest coffee picked by hand in Guatemala, ground by hand, and brewed fresh at the local Tully's. :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

filtered for sure

Well, 99% of coffee is water so filtered is generally going to improve the taste. I find that some tap water is actually pretty tasty though - and that's what makes NY pizza crust so great.

I use tap water, but I'm not much of a coffee drinker

Oh yes, Guatemalan coffee, how could I ever rule that out :1orglaugh

no difference. and anyone that says there is would fail a blind taste test :)

koreanbbque 09-02-2004 12:18 PM

I would think that the filtered water would taste better, but usually the coffee here at the office is so freaking strong, i don't think it'd really matter. LOL

*shrug*

I would probably fail the blind taste test too.
